Yhoundeh.
Yhoundeh or Y'houndeh (The Elk-Goddess) is the wife of Nyarlathotep and the spawn of the androgyne animal Archetype Zyhumé.
Overview[]
Yhoundeh is the consort of Nyarlathotep and the first to mate with the Crawling Chaos thus being the mother of some of the Million Favored Ones but she is more prominently known for being the one who birthed the Four Horsemen of Nyarlathotep. Given that Nyarlathotep is considered to be the Devil in Lovecraftian literature, Yhoundeh would be the bastardized version of the Virgin Mary in Lovecraftian literature.
She is seen as an immoral and malevolent being, inciting chaos and bringing darkness wherever she treads. She is also characterized as being a seductress, as she seduced the bodies and minds of the Hyperborean kings in order for them to expose her to their secrets. As she is the Elk-Goddess, her appearance is akin to a grotesque bovine-like humanoid with a female body.
History[]
Background[]
Yhoundeh's origins are unknown though given that she differs from the main line of Earth's pantheons, it is likely she is one of the Ogdru Hem, but a lesser member of their number. As such, she was among the Ogdru Hem who hid from the wrath of Heaven and the gods and awaited the proper time to strike back.
Yhoundeh would come across the ancient land of Hyperborea. She lived among them in their capital of Gorinium. According to Hecate, she was able to gain the favor of the three Hyperborean kings, known as the Boreades, and in turn seduced them, but a deeper truth behind her arrival was to halt the advancement of the Hyperboreans courtesy of the Anunnaki after the aliens discovered that they would be instrumental in thwarting a series of apocalyptic events leading to the Great Cataclysm. Among her main goals was to gain access to a secret garden the Boreades possessed, a garden that held the Book of Raziel.
Hyperborea[]
According to legend, when Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, Raziel took pity on them and offered them a portion his book that would aid them in surviving against the harshness of the primeval Earth. Their children and descendants would then build and establish a kingdom upon Hyperborea, and the Book of Raziel would be used as religious scripture. Yhoundeh sought the knowledge contained within the book in hopes to find something which will allow the Old Ones to regain dominion over existence. The Boreades recorded the knowledge of Raziel onto forty two books, of which only two were revealed to his people, with the remaining forty being kept for themselves.
By pretending to be their lover, Yhoundeh hoped to steal this knowledge, going so far as to kill the priests and drink their blood, blood that she later vomited out inside the Hyperborean temple and "painted the walls of that place with all that knowledge that they (Boreades) would have kept secret". The spilling of blood alerted Cain to Yhoundeh's location within temple but by the time he arrived, Yhoundeh was long gone and Cain was instead blamed for the murder of the priests. In addition, Cain's presence would be used to her advantage along with her own, warping the minds of the Hyperboreans to worship her and indulge in debaucherously heinous acts. Rahab also took notice of the murder, with it being the first murder to be committed among what was supposed to be the peaceful lands of Hyperborea, which was said to have created "unrest amongst Rahab's oceanic domain".
Now possessing the knowledge held within the Books of Raziel, Yhoundeh went out to the people of Hyperborea as a false prophet, preaching the secrets that the Boreades kings had kept for themselves. Realizing Yhoundeh's treachery, the Boreades unleashed a curse upon her that revealed her true nature. Her worship came to an abrupt end when the angel Rahab began to dismember the continent of Hyperborea in a desperate bid to save the inhabitants from Satan's hold and Yhoundeh's influence. She also fled upon hearing the great trumpets of Gabriel.
Consorting with Nyarlathotep[]
The surviving Hyperboreans would worship Yhoundeh in their spare time, and their civilization waned with the fracture of their kingdom. Yhoundeh also encountered competition in the form of Tsathoggua who came to Hyperborea to claim it for his own. Yhoundeh's followers then instead began worshipping Tsathoggua, and the Elk-Goddess left with scorn towards the Toad God. Even then, Tsathoggua himself was driven away by Apollo, who claimed the land of Hyperborea and banned the worship of the Toad God before forcing the latter to abandon the continent himself.
At an unspecified moment in time, Yhoundeh met and consorted with Nyarlathotep. Being the wife of Nyarlathotep, Yhoundeh birthed many of his children who roam the dark corners of the cosmos, other realms, and even the Earth itself. The greatest among them were the Four Horsemen of Nyarlathotep.
