The Yellow Sign
The Yellow Sign is a symbol or glyph that is associated with the King in Yellow.
Description[]
The Yellow Sign is described as being "a curious symbol or letter in gold. It was neither Arabic or Chinese, nor as I found afterwards did it belong to any human script". Depending on who is viewing it, it can appear as a twisted loop, part-Ouroboros, part Triskelion, or insect wings made of ink and madness. It is also described to be a "key" or an infection that wrote itself into geometry.
Nonetheless, Trevor Bruttenholm deduces that anyone who possesses or sees, even by accident, a copy of the Sign is susceptible to some form of insidious mind control or possession, by the King in Yellow or one of his heirs. The sign does not just mark an individual, but rewrites their self like a parasitic worm manipulating the soul.
Overview[]
Its full nature is unknown, but it seems to possess a strange siren call to the dark world of the King in Yellow and Carcosa, such that those who are exposed to it are doomed. According to Professor Broom, the Yellow Sign is the contagion coinciding with Hastur as the virus. Those who see the sign often do not recognize what they are looking at initially, but the moment they do, it causes an infection in the wound of imagination. It effectively "burns" itself into the perception of human mind, where it can appear in a random book, a tattoo, or a small drawing at the edge of a child's vision.
The documents from the Bureau also suggest that the original creator of the Sign was not human and possibly came from a strange alternate dimension that contains an ominous and ancient city known as Carcosa.
