Yōkai Burst
The Yōkai Burst is a special power possessed by Yokai, spirits or demons of Japanese mythology.
Overview[]
Much like the Devil Trigger of regular demons, the Yōkai Burst allows a Yōkai to release their full supernatural potential. In this form, many of their physical and magical attributes are amplified.
Similarly to the Devil Trigger or the Munin Howl, the Yōkai Burst can only be harnessed by skilled and more talented Yōkai, with the younger and inexperienced ones either unable to access this transformation due to having little reserves of Ki or would outright be destroyed by their own power if they are not careful. A Yōkai's age also depends on the power they have, for older Yōkai would have more Ki and thus their transformations grants them greater abilities. This form also enhances their fighting ability.
Description[]
The Yōkai Burst has also shown to be too overwhelming to certain Oni, even if they were able to master their natural demonic abilities faster than normal. In the case of Nezuko Kamado, when assuming her own Yōkai Burst for the first time, the enormous boost of physical and supernatural power came at the cost of her becoming more demon-like, including the need to feed on human blood. It takes great willpower for a Yōkai, particularly ones that have no quarrel with humans, to prevent their primal instincts from taking over.
A Yōkai's mental state is connected to their Ki, which is spiritual energy, and as such the appearance of their Yōkai Burst is somewhat also connected to their mental state. Moreover, the amount of Ki they have would also affect the appearance of their transformation like a regular demon's Devil Trigger but their mentality would either make them more benign or monstrous in appearance though the theme of the Yōkai Burst remains the same when in their true form, which usually involves a set of large luminescent horns in an intricate formation, a change of skin color, and ancient kanji markings on their backs, arms, and legs.
