The symbol of the Wandsmen

The Wandsmen are a group of extradimensional journalists and archivists. They seek to explore the multiverse and uncover its mysteries, while spreading and preserving knowledge.

Description[]

The Wandsmen are perhaps best known for their inhuman appearance, where undergo a transformation that gives them avian features and anomalous abilities Specifically, they take the quasi-humanoid form of a bird that one previously found repulsive. A prevailing theory behind the cause of this is that the cartographers of eons past who inscribed the first maps and passed them down to them wanted to change their perspectives. Or perhaps they just wanted to teach them some humility before they granted the map's gifts.

Regardless, their forms has many advantages. They are be able to understand others with greater acuity, their bodies are greatly strengthened, age is a thing of the past, and most, if not all of them, possess the gift of flight. Wandsmen who have bodies the size of a canary means that their bodies have been granted the elusive power to explore the strange and twisting wonders of time. They are able to slip through cracks in reality which larger Wandsmen may never even notice, and even have cartographic potential.

Overview[]

The Wandsmen were said to have been founded by Remph, the angel of time, and act as his eyes and ears though Remph himself has never confirmed nor denied this claim. Nevertheless, both the Wandsmen and Remph seemed to be on amicable terms with another as they harmlessly explore the regions of time and space without inflicting any serious damage to the time stream. They seem to be well acquainted with the staff of the Wanderer's Library as well. They are known for having create the Map of the Multiverse which to this day is still expanding as the cartographers are continuously working to enhance it based on the information given by the explorers.

In contrast to many groups of interest, the Wandsmen have attempted to work with the Federal Bureau of Control multiple times. One of their goals is the preservation of existence so they can study it, so they see the FBC as an ally against the multiverse's destruction. However, the Wandsmen do not exactly interfere unless absolutely necessary, having a strict set of rules and codes of conduct where should an event be so catastrophic it threatens the balance and cogs of existence as a whole, they are to act through Remph himself. Very few angels who are outside of Remph's domain know of the Wandsmen with Raziel being among them of course.

Moreover, despite their benevolent nature, they have a variety of extremely dangerous members, have produced multiple anomalous items, and strongly object philosophically to the Federal Bureau of Control's desire to preserve normalcy and conceal knowledge of the anomalous.

Wandsmen Staff[]

The organization of the Wandsmen is perhaps best described as a "Co-op". What this means is that their leaders and several key positions within the organization are elected, and everyone is considered to have partial ownership of their libraries.

A few of the more notable roles within our organization are as follows:

  • Reporters: Reporters are the most common role a Wandsman performs. They are those who wander the multiverse to record its stories. All Wandsman have at least some experience in this role.
  • Hawkers: These are the Wandsmen who sell (or, with approval, provide at no charge) their newspapers and magazines to all the inhabitants of the multiverse who have a chance to understand them. This is a difficult job, but a needed one. One must be both salesman and teacher to bring in the resources they need to maintain operations.
  • Raptors: These are the Wandsmen who uncover dangerous ruins and explore hostile dimensions. They will save lives (and thus minds, and thus knowledge) wherever they can and provide security for their organization. There are many entities and forces in the Multiverse that work against them and the Raptors are the ones who hold the line against such darkness.
  • Arbiters: Arbiters are employed when interacting with other organizations or populations that requires a more diplomatic approach to doing their reporting. Arbiters are elected for certain 'difficult' regions to sort of "smooth things over" for the local population.
  • Cartographers: Cartographers are responsible for mapping the various dimensions that surround the Wandsmen and pathfinding or tunneling ways between them. This job requires a great deal of magical knowledge to execute, as well as certain bodily transformations that many find distasteful.
  • Editors: The editors are in charge of day to day operations, approving story assignments and directing the flow of the organization's resources. At the end of the day they are in charge. They are usually elected every 500 years.
