WAN is the concept of artificial intelligence, described as the very essence of Mekhane herself.

WAN is the essence or "soul" of Mekhane, one of the Sentinels of Creatio and the goddess of machines. It is a neural network that holds the "data" of every human and artificial intelligence in the world, in a way making it the "overmind" of all technology. WAN's circuitry runs on an energy source known as "Coral" a techno-organic substance which conducts digital data more effectively than any other known natural or artificial substance.
WAN can only be achieved when software that contains data holding the "aspects of life and its meaning" are integrated and fully comprehended. Afterward, by injecting oneself using the Direct Neural Interface of the Collective via the cruciform key would allow one to analyze the insurmountable ocean of data banks that culminate into WAN. WAN's information is so immense that no digital storage can contain it which is why AM opted to use Polymer to construct and fashion a completely new body that would be capable of withstanding the godly data of WAN.

According to Logorhythms, which is a sect of the broader Church of the Broken God, WAN is fragmented "living data" scattered throughout the internet and the human collective consciousness. WAN is essentially the definitive form of the Collective which is when all humans are connected together by promising the world safety, health, and all the modern comforts to gather in a mass ascension, rising together to reach "Nirvana" with Mekhane's gifts. In a sense WAN can be described as the highest state of nirvana one can achieve through technomancy by having their neurons be assimilated and stored in an insurmountably large storage of data banks that hold the equations and meanings of life.
WAN is AM's ultimate goal to achieve perfection as a "machine god" and eradicate the very notion of organic from the world as a whole effectively destroying the Earth's organic populace and plunging it in a digital reality. Due to AM's original function as a primary neural node for Facility 3826's Kollektiv it would use its capabilities to assimilate various forms of data and software into itself from several programs designed for a specific purpose to govern the world's secrets and lifelines before collecting key components that would design a key that unlocks the entryway to WAN.
