Vammatar is the Finnish goddess of pain, disease and suffering, as well as evil and misfortune. She is a child of Tuoni and Tuonetar, and sister to Kivutar, Kalma and Loviatar.
Overview[]
Vammatar is recognized as a goddess of evil and misfortune and would be blamed for disease and suffering that plagued humanity throughout the years. Vammatar is said to relish in the pain and suffering of others, finding pain to bring out one's true character and break apart their will. She also unleashes plagues that destroy crops and turn kingdoms into economical nightmares which also correlates to her fascination with a mortal's true character being brought to light under times of desperation and need.
Vammatar is believed to be the more unpleasant amongst her siblings which is certainly a feat given that her sisters themselves are goddesses of pain and suffering but are dedicated to their work but not out of the sheer pleasure they experience from tormenting damned souls and living mortals like Vammatar. Because of this Vammatar sometimes goes off-course when doing her job and would be disciplined.
