The Upside-Down Man, known as the Below-King, the Monster Behind the Page, Evil Belief, and That Which Should Not Be, is one of, if not the, most enigmatic and mysterious beings in existence.
Description[]
He is believed to be the true source of all paranatural phenomena and is in fact believed to be the first paranatural entity to ever come into existence. Given how the Federal Bureau of Control and the Global Occult Coalition deal with the paranatural on a daily basis, he is regarded as their greatest adversary. His relation to the Old Ones is unknown although Nyarlathotep acknowledges him to be a "distant relative" to his kind.
He stated to Jesse Faden that he is the source of the elements which violate the known laws of nature and reality, he is the personification of dark and twisted thoughts and imagination, the shadowy underside of the supernatural. He is basically everything that defies all logic and physics which is why he is known as the "Upside-Down Man" as where the mortals, immortals, and other beasts reside in a place that they perceive as downside-up he resides in a place that is upside-down which is why he cannot be understood through known means be it scientific or magical. The Upside-Down Man is, in more simpler terms, the dark side of belief.

Origins[]
The Upside-Down Man's origins are widely unclear and both the FBC and the GOC can only go with theories as to how he came to be and where he came from. Some say that he was a product of the opposing forces that make up God and Chaos, mostly when the two primordial forces clashed and their energies collapsed into the Seas of Chaos and the Upside-Down Man was born from the waters of nothingness becoming something "that should not and never be". Others believed that he is the dark version of Lucifer created by Azathoth, whereas Azathoth is the Shadow of God, this would make the Upside-Down Man a shadow of Lucifer himself. Few even believe that he might be the first child of the Scarlet King.
A prevailing theory is that the Upside-Down Man came into being when the elements that make up how existence itself functions and flows was in a state of utter disarray consequently making the logical become illogical and the explained becoming unexplained which is then dubbed by the FBC as the paranatural. The only thing that is known of him is that the Upside-Down Man was imprisoned and sealed off by Lucifer, under God's command, to not affect the normal planes of reality.
Legacy[]
Unfortunately, the barrier that kept him at bay weakened significantly when the Scarlet King first rebelled against creation and his machinations allowed the Upside-Down Man to spread the paranatural forces out into the universe. This sparked the founding of the FBC and ever since then, the Federal Bureau of Control has been trying to keep these forces at bay with the aid of the Global Occult Coalition.
