Ubbo-Sathla

Ubbo-Sathla, also known as the Unbegotten Source and the Demiurge, is one of the ancient beings known collectively as the Ogdru Hem and the source of all alien life.

Description

Ubbo-Sathla is described as a huge protoplasmic mass resting in a grotto deep beneath a frozen planet. The being is of a monstrous fecundity, spontaneously generating primordial single-celled organisms that pour unceasingly from its shapeless form.

Overview

Ubbo-Sathla was said to have spawned from the Magnum Innominandum or the Nameless Mist which is a primordial manifestation of Azathoth's incoherent yet spontaneous creations. Ubbo-Sathla would venture throughout the cosmos and travel from planet to planet by manipulating the trajectory of a meteorite as though it were a vehicle.

Upon reaching a planet it would assimilate a world's barren ecosystem before mutating it to become a habitable world for its own endeavours. Ubbo-Sathla would then begin to generate primordial single-celled organisms that grow, respond to the environment, transform energy, and reproduce and through a series of adaptability these organisms evolve to become multi-celled organisms that eventually culminate into alien beings. Ubbo-Sathla's protoplasmic mass would generate various species of extraterrestrials that contrast and differ greatly from one another depending on the environment they grow on.

The Old One's next target would be planet Earth itself which was already teeming with life for Ubbo-Sathla to twist and mutate. Fortunately it was intercepted by the Greek deity Phanes who slayed the Old One before it could assimilate the planet into its mass. However, as a last-ditch effort, Ubbo-Sathla spawned from its remains the Old One known as Abhoth to preserve its legacy. Abhoth would continue in its parent's purpose which is to spawn monstrous alien creatures but given that Abhoth is a lesser version of Ubbo-Sathla and resides on Earth it would spawn ultraterrestrials than extraterrestrials.
