Technomancy (Art by TazioBettin)

Technomancy, otherwise known as Technomagic, is a category of magical abilities that affect technology or magical powers that are gained through the use of technology.

Description[]

When in the use of technomancy, sorcerers have the ability to combine magic and technology in various ways and to various extents. Beginners can create and mimic technology via magic while advanced users can infuse technology with magic, granting it considerable edge and versatility. True masters can fuse magic and technology entirely, retaining all of their strengths and none of their weaknesses.

Despite the similarities, technomany and magitech are distinct from one another. In regards to magitech, this form considers magic and science to be two parts of one force, while technomancy has magic affecting science, notwithstanding. Magitech allows the sorcerer to use magic to affect or replicate the technology, and casting spells and enchantments that result in some sort of cyber-related effect. Technomancers are basically utilizing science and technology as though as if it was a paranormal element like fire or blood.

Overview[]

The first known recorded use of technomancy was from the Da'at Yichud, a mystical secret society that has designed and created inventions centuries ahead of contemporary times and first worshipped Mekhane. Seeing as Mekhane is referred to as the "God of Machines" then it only makes sense that technomancy would be traced all the way back to her. From Mekhane, the Da'at Yichud were the first to harness the power of technomancy, manipulating science and technology as though it were magic. For other individuals outside of the Da'at Yichud's culture, they would often describe the science behind the Da'at Yichud's machinery and inventions as being so advanced it looked like magic.

After the disassembly of the Da'at Yichud, the Church of the Broken God took their place and opted to finish what they could not. As a result, they too began to learn the basics of technomancy with only very few becoming advanced in certain areas of the turgy. The "Mekhanites" as they were dubbed would make use of their technomancy to fight back against the Sarkites whom were the total opposites as they would use the power of flesh in contrast to the Mekhanites and D'at Yichud who would use machinery.

In the modern ages, around the early 1700s, the Duke of Serkonos Kirin Jindosh was able to extract and learn from the recorded ancient documents left behind by the Mekhanites and Da'at Yichud tablets to create some of the first Automatons, or Clockwork Soldiers, which led to the Industrial Revolution. Ritchi Simpson, an old friend of John Constantine, could incorporate a sub-usage of technomancy known as "cybermancy".
