The Tarasque was a draconid monster from French folklore.
Overview[]
Tarasque was said to be spawn of the Leviathan who terrorized the area of Provence in southern France, with the French pagans being unable to stop the creature.
The monster would eventually be tamed by Martha of Bethany, with the help of prayers and hymns. Martha and the Tarasque would eventually arrive at one of the towns the creature had terrorized, where the terrified townsfolk killed the monster.
Martha was angered at the townsfolk, but converted them to Christianity, and the people renamed their town as Tarascon in order to honour both the tamed creature and God.
