The Sun Moth organization, or the Taira clan, was one of the four most important samurai clans that dominated Japanese politics during the Heian Period of Japanese history and one of the mightiest organizations that is dedicated to destroying demonic forces across Japan and China alongside the Crimson Lotus.
They were originally affiliated with the Crimson Lotus as both were one of the splinter clans of Kisatsutai organization, but broke off from their faction due to differences on how they operate in destroying the supernatural.
History[]
Along with the Minamoto, Taira was one of the honorary surnames given by the emperors of the Heian Period (794 - 1185 CE) to their children and grandchildren who were not considered eligible for the throne. The clan was founded when the Imperial Court grew too large, and the emperor ordered that the descendants of previous emperors from several generations ago would no longer be princes, but would instead be given commoner surnames and rank. The decision became applicable during the reign of Emperor Kanmu (782-805) and thus, together with the Taira clan, the Minamoto clan was born.

With the Crimson Lotus and other related clans of the Kisatsutai, they pledged an oath to the shinto creator god Izanagi to rid the world of supernatural evil after witnessing the Oni pillage and plunder their beloved homes. Izanagi heard their plea and blessed them with the power and skill to destroy the demons. When Izanagi gave the clans to Susanoo, that is when things started to go awry as the clans would argue and even at times engage into personal conflict with one another over their methods of how to destroy the supernatural. As a result, the Sun Moth broke off from the Crimson Lotus and now instead began to fight in Amaterasu's name.
The Sun Moth would then much later on rejoin the Crimson Lotus as one family but still retain their name and independency. Ling Yao of the Crimson Lotus, through his experience of dealing with the Apocalypse alongside his allies, thought that it would best to come together as one clan since their quarreling will never allow them to achieve peace. He promises to Mei Chang and the members of the Sun Moths that he would protect them and that he wishes for them to protect him and his own clan and thus come together as one family. The clan accepted this.
