Snorri Sturluson.

To Odin many a soul was driven, to Odin many a rich gift given.
~ Snorri Sturluson

Snorri Sturluson (1179 – 23 September 1241) was an Icelandic historian, poet, law speaker, politician and author, who notably wrote The Prose Edda.

While Sturluson was a Christian, he was always fascinated about the gods of his people. According to some, this started when he was young boy and witnessed his father Sturla Poroarson try to settle the a dispute between a Christian priest and a pagan chieftain name Pall Solvason. During the settlement Sturla was attacked by Solvason's angry wife, who promised to make "one-eyed like the hero Odin". Luckily she was stopped.

Snorri would go on to become a key figure in Icelandic society and used his knowledge of law and art to document the old Norse legends into a collection of what would become The Prose Edda, which described the old gods, nine realms, Jötunn, Yggdrasil, Dwarves, Elves and even included prophecies of Ragnarök.

It is possible that he actually met one of the Aesir or Vanir who helped to collaborate on the work, but these claims remain unknown.
