| ~ Roy Mustang to the Dark Knight Initiative before their final battle with Lucifer |
Leroy Joseph "Roy" Mustang is a world-renowned spy and second commander, having the rank of Colonel, and the director of the Global Occult Coalition. He is also the founder of the Dark Knight Initiative.
Overview[]
Mustang began his career within the United States Army in the late 1970s, rising to the rank of Colonel before his honorable discharge. He later became a CIA operative during the Cold War, primarily operating in Soviet territory. Continuing to serve his country, Mustang joined the Global Occult Coalition to fight against the Earth's most dangerous enemies which are supernatural, paranatural, and extraterrestrial.
Under Mustang, the Global Occult Coalition grows into one of the world's most powerful organizations, reaching covertly into national governments and forming strategic alliances with other independent organizations and having several be part of their coalition such as the B.P.R.D. Mustang soon becomes the supernatural community's main contact when government-related information is required in order to deal with a crisis.
During Mustang's days working in the GOC, he noticed that the great scope of enemies only widened as the years went by, specifically with how many of the independent paramilitary organization that destroy the forces of darkness have engaged against powerful enemies which threatened large populous locations or even certain regions of the world. Because of this, Mustang refocused his efforts over the next fifteen years to organize the Dark Knight Initiative, with Mustang's true intentions were to bring together any other powerful individuals to assist the GOC with protecting the Earth from K-Class scenarios, which he had only learned of following his discovery of the archives detailing the Deathless War.
Despite some more considerable reluctance from the United Nations who had not believed in his theories, Mustang had still continued his efforts which were proven right upon their observing of the collaboration between the Hellsing Organization, the Order of the Silver Cross, and Devil May Cry into taking down the Scarlet Brood and defeating Absalom in London. The Dark Knight project was greenlit by the GOC's high-command and later the President of the United States, resulting in Roy first seeking out Dante of the Devil May Cry agency in order to recruit him in the Initiative alongside others. His recruitment of all the key players for the Initiative was for the purpose of fighting against the Illuminati and to prevent them from bringing forth a New World Order by raising the fallen angel Lucifer.
Appearance[]
Roy is a middle-aged man of average height and build. He has faded brown hair and a small noticeable scar on his right eyebrow. He wears the typical outfit that comes with being a spy which consists of a large black coat with wool blend fabric and is lined with soft viscose lining on the inside. It structures a stand-up wide notch lapel style collar that reaches down to a front buttoned closure, along with long sleeves, open hem cuffs and two side waist pockets. Underneath the coat is a black turtle-neck shirt and wears black pants with black combat boots complete with black leather gloves.
Personality[]
Roy Mustang is somewhat of an enigma, but his actions prove him to be bold and pragmatic. It's nearly impossible to read his emotions. He is known to expertly manipulate people and prone to think several steps ahead of those around him, giving him a remarkable talent for making subordinates act exactly as he wishes despite appearing not to have had a hand in their decisions and is the bearer of many, classified, global security secrets. Because of all the horrors he witnessed and endured throughout his years of being in the Global Occult Coalition, Roy is typically viewed as being battle-hardened and prone to quick frustrations towards those that do not follow the designated protocol of his missions as it would only lead to bigger problems. He is known for his fearlessness and stubborn nature, being unintimidated at all by powerful threats and engaging in battles that normal humans would not normally walk away from alive.
Because of these horrors that emerge and plague the world, including the fabric of reality as a whole, Mustang and his organization, the Global Occult Coalition, share a cynical outlook much like the Federal Bureau of Control. Sometimes, Roy finds that cutthroat actions and clandestine, illegal operations are necessary to protect the world. Roy stated that "the world is filling up with all sorts of monsters and unnatural people that can't be matched" and advocates methods for the GOC to arm themselves against potential threats, even if it involves creating weapons of mass destruction. Roy's main goal was world safety against supernatural and paranatural threats, going so far as to create a united alliance of paramilitary organizations called the Dark Knight Initiative and secretly planned to use a piece of the Abomination of Desolation as a weapon for use of a secondary security option. The latter was kept a secret, even from the Initiative.
Mustang also tends to have his enemies underestimate him which is revealed to be an intentional façade perfectly designed to cause those unfamiliar with him to underestimate his remarkable intelligence and ability. He is an exceptional tactician, well-versed in various strains of combat theory and particularly talented in the realms of surreptitious information-gathering, covert operations and enemy ensnarement. He is also highly perceptive as he was the first to notice that Al Simmons's capture was "too easy" only to later deduce alongside Abigail Hawkins that Al intentionally allowed himself to be captured so as to find the true culprits behind his murder before he became a Hellspawn. Furthermore, being that he holds many dark secrets, Roy intentionally withholds certain information from others as a form of psychological strategy so as to have them discover said information on their own to break them down only to strengthen their resolve and willpower further down the road. Example of this is when he was aware of the fact that Al Simmons was the one that killed Neyka's parents and he did not reveal such information for he, in his own words, "would play his cards right" in terms of what would transpire afterwards. While ruthless and unethical, to where even Riza Colton scolds him over it, it has created advantageous scenarios for him him though he makes it clear that he does not enjoy it.
While his decisions make him appear ruthless and the nature of his profession occasionally requires a moral grey, Mustang genuinely cares about human life and did not view his agents or the Initiative members as pawns. And despite being apparently quite a serious person, Mustang has displayed a knack for dry humor. At the core, he is a remarkably devoted commander whose primary focus and personal duty is to his friends and subordinates. Though he hides it well behind a veil of cynicism, Mustang is a man who cares deeply about the people who trust and support him and goes to great lengths to ensure their safety and well-being, even at the risk of his own. Riza Colton is his closest friend and possible love interest and he seems to trust people like Dante and the leaders of other paramilitary organizations such as Integra Hellsing or Trevor Bruttenholm.
