The Rebis. Note its appearance being that of a solar eclipse.
The Rebis, meaning duality, is the divine fruit that grows from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, however, the Rebis is actually the true and complete form of the divine fruit and largely considered to be the end result between harmony and discord.
Appearance[]
While the Rebis is regarded as a "fruit" it does not have the physical appearance of one nor is it even a physical object to begin with. The Rebis fruit is more of a metaphysical or allegorical concept given "form" in the shape of a fruit but with the appearance of a solar eclipse.
Description[]
The Rebis is a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. It is all that is opposite from one another within the natural order of the universe such as Day and Night, Summer and Winter, Fire and Water, Yin and Yang, and so forth. According to God, it is the fruit of the universe's labor concerning dualism and a fruitful paradox of simultaneous unity and duality. It is that which Lucifer sought to obtain in order to return to his angelic self.
The Rebis is also capable of reading one's soul and being as a whole, indicating that it might have a will or mind of its own. It is said by God that the Rebis will only provide harmony and balance to those who would consume it into what their being represents, such as chaos within night, should they themselves attempt to unite their spirit, mind, and body as a form of reconciliation and acceptance without having to fight against themselves. In the case of Dante and Vergil, they represent the two opposing forces in the natural order such as Fire and Water or Light and Dark that, even though was split, were in harmony together and in a complementary form of balance. However, it was not until the death of their mother that lead them to take the paths they chose that their representing opposing forces ended up in conflict with each other which also relates to the Cycle of Fratricide.
Overview[]
God explains that the fruit which Lucifer consumed in order to regain his angelic power was not the complete form of the divine fruit, however, it was later revealed that it very nearly reached the stages of its completion during the climax of the Apocalypse. And even then, Lucifer was not truly whole as his own inner darkness and turmoil is what leads to his defeat at the hands of the Sons of Sparda and their allies. The fruit that Sparda and Eva offered to Dante and Vergil on God's behalf was grown during the time when the Tree still resided in the Garden of Eden before Lucifer's rebellion. And he knew that should Adam and Eve devour the fruit in its completed state, it would have spelt disaster for the natural order of things.
After their supposed deaths at the hands of Lucifer during the climax of the Apocalypse, the brothers found themselves in Limbo but separated from one another with the location taking the form of their childhood home while they themselves were children. Dante and Vergil were also able to reunite with their parents, visiting the twins only as a favor from God. Dante and Vergil would often switch between their parents mid-conversation all while the two were imparting their final advice and love unto their children, helping them gain the closure they so desperately sought. Sparda and Eva give them halves of a single fruit which was later revealed to be the Rebis, with each half respectively embodying the forces that both Dante and Vergil represent; Dante being the Sun and its Fire and Vergil being the Moon and its Ice. Finally, Sparda and Eva informed them that in order to truly restore order to the world, they must learn to be at peace with themselves and each other, unifying that which they fought against for many years.
Once accepting and devouring the fruit, Dante and Vergil's halves of their being unified in perfect harmony, with Dante uniting his demonic side together with his human side, and Vergil fully embracing his humanity to synchronize peacefully with his demonic side. This not only awakened the brothers' true and untapped power within themselves but also bestowed them with newly forged weapons to compliment their unity. The only physical effect it had on the twins were their eye color becoming more intense and their pupils slit in a reptilian manner. This effect most likely is part of the fact that their demonic heritage is draconic in nature.
