Rahab. (Art by Peter Mohrbacher)
| “ | Fallen from grace, once the angel of death, now he is little more than a banished soul chained to the depths of the ocean. He is a tortured soul indeed. Unfavored, unloved, unwanted but still the faithful lamb. Lost to the light of day and the house of man, he is still the master of the abyss and must be respected. | „ |

Rahab (noise, tumult, arrogance), is a mythical sea monster, a dragon of the deep waters. Known most commonly as the Angel of the Sea, Rahab was once a keeper of the faith who protected seafaring coastal peoples and kept order amongst the deep dwelling creatures of the sea.
Overview[]
Rahab was the Angel of the Deep and thus was an angel that was closest to children of Adam and Eve. Being part of the veins of the world, Rahab arguably had a better understanding of how the world and its inhabitants operated whilst his brethren resided in the timeless halls of Paradise. Even after his imprisonment, Rahab would be there in the waters, rivers, and springs of the world but where no mortal may dare ever enter.
He would listen upon the conversations between the men who traversed the coastal waters as well as the gods that took the ocean as their domain as well. The happenings and words exchanged up on the land would be recorded and written in a book by Rahab which would then echo throughout the deep unexplored areas of the water, where sailors believe the voices of those long forgotten or had passed soar the seas as departed souls.
History[]
Background[]
Much of Rahab's background is unknown other than he is the great angel of the sea and a subordinate of Azrael. Unlike most angels, Rahab seldom came to Heaven unless it was of the utmost importance or was specifically called to by God. All waters were under his government: bays, rivers and even the waters under the earth. It is through the rivers that he kept in touch with Earth, and thus knew more of the goings on with the Children of Adam than even most Territorial Spirits, for in that way he lived in the very veins of the world.
It is said that Rahab was one of the angels that felt pity for Adam and Eve after their expulsion from the Garden of Eden alongside Raziel himself. When Raziel offered them his book of knowledge in order to better equip themselves for the harshness of the primeval world, the angels were alarmed and quickly tossed the book into the sea, Rahab's domain. Rahab, instead of keeping the book, returned it to Adam under God's orders. It is also said that Rahab was the one who raised the continent of Hyperborea out of the oceans for the early descendants of Adam and Eve to make as their new home and later kingdom. He raised it as a gift for the, then known, Hyperboreans for their contribution in maintaining a stable kingdom that did not threaten the lands or sea.
Destruction of Hyperborea[]
Perhaps Rahab's hand in the destruction of the Hyperboreans was his undying love for them. While they are creations of the Lord, Rahab saw that their development and advanced into a golden kingdom that shone upon the surface of the ocean would be not without his doing and he came to claim them as his own. He so loved them in fact that he would even prevent the likes of Satan himself from reaching the Hyperboreans. This created a fierce hatred between Rahab and Satan as the sea would be the one domain that Satan had no dominion over despite declaring himself as the God of the World. While he could not set foot upon Hyperborea, his children can, and in this case, Cain, the Father of Murder. Unbeknownst to Rahab, Satan guided Cain to the continent of Hyperborea where he could perhaps find some meaning in his pitiful existence once again and Cain set sailed towards Hyperborea.
Upon landing, Cain's presence within Hyperborea began to warp the nature of the people. The Hyperboreans began divulge into sin and unleashing mayhem unto their kingdom, tarnishing the gift that was so graciously given to them by Rahab. But what truly sealed the fate of the Hyperboreans was their worship of the Elk-Goddess, Yhoundeh. In a fit of rage and desperation to protect the Hyperboreans, and also going against the orders of Heaven, Rahab tore into the continent, flooding massive sections of the land and even tore a chunk of the continent off in sheer anger, sensing the taint of the Adversary and would not allow it to fall under his hands and be seduced by his forked tongue. This torn piece of Hyperborea drifted off into the sea and was said to have become the lost kingdom of Atlantis.
Gabriel descended from on high and quickly subdued the fallen angel of the deep. While fighting ferociously, he could not overcome the might of the great archangel. As punishment, he would be imprisoned in his own domain with the creatures he once swore to protect. From there, he ordered his host to slaughter the surrounding Kraken that were feeding upon the Hyperboreans who attempted to escape through the seas, as he subdued Rahab himself. Afterward, he would use the corpses of the slain Kraken to bind the now fallen angel to the depths of the ocean, crafting chains from their very entrails. As a result, the angel was banished from the celestial plane and confined to the oceans of the world, unable to ever break through the waters surface to ask for forgiveness for his transgressions.
Fate of Rahab[]
Rahab would be identified as an angel of insolence and pride, but still endlessly seeks repentance for his misdeeds from the Almighty to be freed of his aquatic prison. It is said that the struggling of Rahab against his chains shakes the world's oceans and produces tumultuous waves; he is also responsible for the roaring of the sea. It is now rumored that Rahab ferries the bodies of the dead into the sea. His new promise to mankind is to bring them to depths where they will never be disturbed again. This passage into darkness takes souls to a place of no return, the home of the deep dwelling angel.
