The Three Prime Evils
The Prime Evils, also known as the First Three Evils, or Greater Evils, were the original inhabitants of the Abyss and consequently the original "demons".
Description[]
Given that they were the first original demonic inhabitants of the Abyss and therefore Hell they rightfully held absolute dominion over the realm as a whole. Their true names cannot be pronounced and are usually referred to as the First, Second, and Third of the Evils respectively. Some even refer to them as the First of the Fallen despite having never been former residents in Heaven.
Unlike most demons and fallen angels, whom are regarded as spirits or transcendent beings, the Prime Evils are conceptual or abstract entities as they are the physical manifestation of the negative concepts which was birthed from the warring conflict between God and Azathoth. They are quite literally the primordial fears that emerged from the very experience of war and death. The Second of the Evils is a shapeless, constantly shifting, sometimes apparently liquid expanse of blackness. While the Third of the Evils takes all sorts of shapes, changing to a different form in every passing second.
History[]
Genesis[]
According to Metatron, the Scribe of God, there are two possible notions in regards to the backgrounds of the Prime Evils; one is that they came into being during the clash between God and Azathoth and the other is that they have simply always been there. What is known by all, however, is that the Prime Evils originated from the Abyss and was its original inhabitant. In Mesopotamian myth, however, it is said that the Prime Evils were formed from the seven heads of Tiamat when they were severed by the god Marduk and fell into the chaotic oceans of the Abyss. The three most powerful of them were spawned from Tiamat's dominant heads, and became known as the Prime Evils.
When it comes to their origins being tied to the battle between God and Azathoth, it is said that during the warring conflict between the two primordials, their various clashes created "sparks", much like how sparks of ember are ignited whenever two attacks collide powerfully with one another like swords and such, and these sparks reached the Abyss which resulted in the creation of the Prime Evils. But the Evils was said to be in a state where they were neither alive nor dead and it was only when the universe came to be that the Evils gained self-clarity and manifested in the Abyss.
When the Universe was fully formed, God moved the Abyss that held the Three Evils below the confines of creation, most likely to prevent the Evils from crossing over. Though another interpretation was that Samael was the one who moved the Evils away from creation. The Evils, before awakening, were believed to have been aware of what was occurring above them and likened the Almighty as a madman.
Cast into Tartarus[]
After the War in Heaven, Lucifer and his rebel angels were tossed out of Heaven and crashed into the Abyss. The impact of the fallen upon this entrance to the abyss created a chain reaction which terraformed the wasteland surrounding the Abyss into a blazing Inferno, and awakened ancient evils slumbering deep within the abyssal chasm. After Lucifer rallied his fallen brethren and would establish a kingdom here within the newly formed Hell, they were immediately set upon by the Three Evils. Urizen, Tor'Baalos, and Dul'Mephistos fought against Lucifer, Satan, and Beelzebub respectively in a battle to claim rulership over Hell with the fallen angels emerging victorious and banished the Evils from Hell, far back into the depths of Tartarus.
However, despite their banishment, the Evils would bide their time until they struck back against Lucifer and reclaim Hell. During their confinement within Tartarus, the Prime Evils created four other demons but "lesser" when compared to them. These four became known as the Maleficar and were every bit as power-hungry, ambitious, and malevolent as any mortal or immortal perceives a demon. The Primes only had the Maleficar slip into Hell during the period when Pluto was in chains and the seat to keep Tartarus secure was vacant. The Maleficar watched and observed with curious intent and find a way to dismantle the current power structure of Hell so as to allow the Prime Evils to mount an attack. However, one of the Maleficar known as Argosax, in his arrogance and lust, wanted to take the entirety of the Inferno for himself, but was met with resistance from the current emperor Mundus who had one of the Knights of Hell, Sparda, defeat him then banished the Great Evil into the void that lay beyond the borders of Hell.
Lords of Hell[]
After the Apocalypse, the Evils were still confined to Tartarus due to Abaddon replacing Pluto. However, when Abaddon was summoned by Lilith to reignite the Apocalypse only to be defeated by the Dark Knight Initiative, the Evils took this opportunity to take over the Inferno. The imprisonment of their progeny, the Great Evils, also benefited in their conquering of Hell as they were aware of the Maleficarum's acts of treason against them so awaited for other external forces to deal with them knowing their arrogance would be their downfall. But they were of course met with resistance from many demons that were loyal to Lucifer and the other monarchs of Hell. On the one hand, legions of other demons shifted their loyalty to the Evils mainly due to the fact that they were tired of being under the rule of the more prominent fallen angels.
The Prime Evils held the balance of power within Hell, much like the Satanic Triumvirate, in order to establish a ruling order in the Inferno. Given their power and the support they have, it was only a matter of time before they completely take over Hell and kill the rebellious nobles. The Primes turned their attention to the perversion of human souls, for they realized that mankind was key to their eventual domination over the Light.
