Pape Satàn, pape Satàn alepp.
~ Plutus praising Satan.

Plutus was the Greek God of wealth and the son of Mammon and Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest and agriculture. He embodies the avaricious wealth of growing crops and the desire to want more through said harvesting.

Overview[]

Plutus is believed to be the son of the goddess Demeter and the fallen angel Mammon, though sometimes he was also said the be the son of Hades and Persephone. Though given his position within the Abrahamic underworld the implication of him being the child of Mammon and Demeter is more likely to be the case. Moreover, Demeter is said to hardly ever visit her child with Mammon himself even disregarding him on more than one ocsasion.

Nevertheless, Plutus would also become one the few pagan gods to join Lucifer's, alongside Nergal and the Erinyes, who took residence in Hell. However, some believe that Plutus only joined out of fear of his destruction by Lucifer's hands even though Morning Star paid little to no attention towards the spawn of Mammon and Demeter. Nevertheless, Lucifer did find some use for him as he would become the guardian of the Fourth Circle of Hell, where he would punish the souls of the greedy.

Dante Alighieri encountered the degenerated deity during his trip through Hell, where Plutus taunted him, until he was driven away by the poet Virgil.
