Phorcys

Phorcys is a primordial sea god in Greek mythology and the father of sea monsters with his mate Ceto.

Description[]

In extant Hellenistic-Roman mosaics, Phorcys was depicted as a fish-tailed merman with crab-claw legs and red, spiky skin. He was a primordial beast of tremendous size and strength. Phorcys also sported tentacles that were large enough to be able to destroy cities with relative ease. In addition to tentacles, Phorcys was armed with a gaping maw full of many sharp teeth.

Overview[]

Phorcys was the grandchild of Tiamat alongside his sister Ceto, and a god embodying the unknown deep its monstrous marine life-forms. Phorcys and Ceto were involved in Tiamat's vengeance against the gods for slaying her mate Abzu. She managed to coerce her grandchildren to spawn monsters of their own such as the Drakaina, female serpents or dragons that would play a role in the war against the Olympian gods who would also then go on to spawn great monsters.

Despite Tiamat's destruction, this did not deter Phorcys and Ceto. They managed to spawn a host of terrible marine beasts, most prominent of which are the Cetus, the marine counterparts of their terrestrial relatives the dragons. From the Cetus came forth the Raandeese, demonic Sirens who would occasionally bring forth the bodies of dead sailors to Phorcys in order to devour them.
