The Demonic Paradise Wiki

The Owlman, sometimes referred to as the Cornish Owlman, or the Owlman of Mawnan, was originally believed to be a cryptid of sorts only to later be revealed as a therianthrope or in this case a Strix, which is one of the wereavians.

Overview[]

The Owlman was initially believed to be a cryptid but later research by the B. P. R. D shows that the Owlman is in fact a werebeast, a therianthrope that can shift between a normal and beastial form at will due to a curse, magical ritual or another circumstance. But in the Owlman's case, it is a beastial creature long thought to have been extinct; a wereavian.

History[]

Background[]

It is unknown who the Owlman was as a human and the circumstances surrounding his origin is shrouded in mystery. Wereavians are not impossible as there was the incident with Vivienne de Tabris from Toussaint whose parents were cursed by an unknown creature for trespassing unto its domain by having their unborn daughter take the form of a humanoid oriole on the night of a full moon. Whether this could be a similar case for the Owlman is undisclosed.

Cornish Owlman[]

The Owlman story began when paranormal researcher Tony "Doc" Shiels was approached by a man, Don Melling, who had been visiting the area on holiday from Lancaster. Melling said that on April 17, 1976, his two daughters, 12-year-old June and her 9-year-old sister, Vicky, were walking through the woods near Mawnan church when they saw a large winged creature hovering above the church tower.

The girls were frightened and immediately ran to tell their father. According to Shiels, the family had become so perturbed by the sighting that they had abandoned their holiday three days early and that the father would not allow either of his daughters to be interviewed. Sheils was, however, provided with a drawing of the creature made by twelve-year-old June.
