| “ | You call me a coward, what was I supposed to do? I was a mere serpent looking upon the personification of hatred rising from the east coming to conquer my lands. What would you do if you saw the Devil with your own mortal eyes? | „ |
| ~ Nahash |
Nahash was one of the Sentinels of Creatio created by Asherah. After his banishment, he became a bookkeeper within the Wanderer's Library.
Appearance[]
In the eyes of mortals, Nahash resembles a serpent of indeterminate length and glazed eyes. In his true form he still retains a similar appearance except the length of his body seemingly stretches endlessly as evidenced where whenever one enter the Wanderer's Library they would always come across a section of Nahash's body coiled or resting by the shelves and books with the Wanderer's Library being known to stretch across the vastness of infinite imagination and creative story-telling. His scales are said to glisten with literary words in many styles of calligraphy.
History[]
Background[]
Nahash was originally a protector of the Tree of Life and kept watch over its secret power. He spoke of all the wonders that came with the Tree’s power, the power that would test man’s skill and spirit. His sister, Mekhane, whom was also a guardian of the Tree, was tasked with keeping watch over its gifts.
During the Scarlet King's conquest, Nahash saw him coming from the east, rising out of the Abyss to consume creation. Nahash became frightened by this and, out of fear, acted out of line. He wanted to attack first, so he spoke to Mekhane, and told her of what would happen. He asked her to use the gifts of the Tree of Life against the Scarlet King, but she declined. Nahash fled to a place where he remained out of fear of these events.
Banishment[]
Seeing that he could not bring himself to defend the Tree of Life and Asherah, Nahash was shamed for his cowardly nature and was banished from the Garden. At first he lurked beneath the Tree of Life, coiling around its roots and observing the dark alternate realities and dimensions which are in contrast to the ones above by the Tree's branches, he soon found refuge in the Wanderer's Library.
To this day, Nahash confined himself in the Library as penance for not participating in the defense of Heaven and creation, feeling he betrayed the very role he was created for. Regardless, Nahash did find comfort within the Wanderer's Library, becoming the keeper of all books that have or ever will be written (and several that will not).
Nahash would not be in total isolation for he would be joined by Dream of the Endless who found himself enamored by the impeccable beauty and majesty of the Library. Through Dream's advice, Nahash would come to see the Wanderer's Library as something other than a prison. He would provide the books and the knowledge whilst Dream would give the stories contained within the books.
