A moon beast.
The Moon Beasts, also known as Lunarians, were toad-like creatures living in the Dreamlands' version of the moon, active in the trade of human slaves and gold (in exchange for their rubies) in the port of Dylath-Leen, on Earth's dreamlands.
Appearance[]
The moon beasts are described as pale, squat, toad-like creatures, which are also superhumanly strong with a noxious odor. They have no eyes but instead a mass of pink tentacles at the end of their snout likely used as a substitute to detect and see through incredibly enhanced senses of smell.
Overview[]
The moon beasts are fearsome monsters that reside upon the Dreamland's moon, but would occasionally traverse from the Dreamlands to the physical world whereby they emerge on the Earth's moon. They communicate using flutes, at least to their servants, being otherwise silent even in death. The moon beasts have also shown to camouflage themselves when confronting what they consider and invasive threat such as when they disguised themselves a moon rocks to hide from the Apollo 18 crew.
History[]
Background[]
Their origins are unknown but they are described as sailing Black Galleys between the moon and the Dreamlands to trade rubies in exchange for slaves and gold in the port of Dylath-Leen, employing Men of Leng disguised in turbans, as to not reveal their true nature. The Moon Beasts constructed an artificial planet for the Tiphon, shapeshifting extraterrestrials, called Klyntar. The Tiphon thrived on Klyntar when in reality it was used as a cage or animal pen of sorts for the Moon Beasts to exploit and use the rare minerals produced by the Tiphon. After an untold amount of years, the Tiphon rebelled against their jailors which eventually culminated in the destruction of Klyntar.
1974[]
The first known recorded encounter with them was during the mission of Apollo 18 in 1974. Nathan Walker and his crew manned an expedition to the moon and upon landing they were completely unaware of the threat that hid upon the moon. They did, however, receive an ominous warning through their radio communications, managing to make out words and sentences they could hear as "leave" and "not what it seems".
Unbeknownst to them, it was Sanna attempting to communicate with the astronauts and warn them of the impending danger. The Federal Bureau of Control knew of their existence due to this incident and hid the truth from the public, portraying it as a malfunction of the Lunar Module, before sending a unit to the moon and capture one of the moon beasts to study it. The moon beasts traversed to the Earth's moon likely to collect the unnatural materials composed and left behind by the Tiphon who were discovered within the Pytheas crater of the moon.
