The Mi-go are an extraterrestrial species from the planet Yuggoth.
Description[]
The creatures are essentially a sapient fungi that manifests in the form of individual instances of life possessing crustaceans and insectoid features. They are said to be covered in antennae where a head would normally be, and possess the ability to sprout wings from their bodies as well, making them capable of flight. While airborne, their legs are deadly piecing weapons used for impaling and skewering prey on its legs in order to keep them for later for later.
They are sapient and possess advanced technology, such as interstellar travel and have visited Earth several times. They typically communicate by changing the color of their heads, however they can also modify their bodies to make them able to speak, however this is often considered unsettling due to a constant buzz emitted by the Mi-go when they communicate this way.
History[]
Background[]
The Mi-go's origins are unknown. All that is known about them is their purpose which is to mine rare metallic ores and minerals on different planets. Sometime in the distant past, the Mi-go mined and harvested a mineral that was found inside meteorite fragments that landed on Yuggoth forming the latter's craters. What the Mi-go were unaware of until later was that these fragments held a pathogen known only as Chromiant.
On Yuggoth the Chromiant was dubbed as the "Vile Fungus" and due to Yuggoth's atmosphere it metamorphosed into fungal matter that infected the Mi-go and forced them to spread its spores across the cosmos, particularly in regions where there are habitable planets, similar to Earth's ophiocordyceps.
Travel to Earth[]
In order to dispose of this terrifying epidemic on their planet, the Mi-go turned to the Old One known as Ghatanothoa who was able to consume the chromiant fungal matter that infested Yuggoth; Ghatanothoa would somehow gain necrotic abilities from his consumption of the Chromiant.
Afterwards, the Mi-go would begin aiding Ghataanothoa's ascent towards a terrestrial planet under Cthulhu's command as he and his kin were making their way towards Earth at the time. Upon arriving, the Mi-go built a colossal fortress deep within the lost continent of Mu, atop the mountain of Yaddith-Gho and sealed Ghatanothoa inside the mountain beneath a large trapdoor. It is said that the Old One remains there to this day.
Here it is said that Ghatanothoa broods eternally; wallowed, waddled and burrowed deep in the Earth, filling the land of Mu with horrors and darkness. However, he and his ilk were supposedly slain by the great might of the Agarthans, a race comprised of the Earliest humans who retreated to the Hollow Earth some time after the destruction of the first kingdom of Hyperborea. The land of Mu, however, was wiped from the map during the battle between Agartha and Ghatanothoa.
