Sunken ruins of Lemuria (Art by Kumaran Handy)

Lemuria, or Limuria, was a lost continent located and subsequently sank beneath the Indian Ocean.

Description[]

While its inhabitants were unknown, many within the scientific communities proposed that on this lost continent there once lived a race of now-extinct humans called Lemurians who had four arms and enormous, hermaphroditic bodies but nevertheless are the supposed ancestors of modern-day humans (and perhaps also lemurs).

Overview[]

One theory in regards to Lemuria's background is that this continent was where the first humans settled after being expelled from spiritual paradise by divine forces. Another is that Lemuria was originally the Garden of Eden before its remnants were ejected unto the physical plane and became Lemuria. Over the years, some of these humans remained on Lemuria whilst others drifted off and created their own civilizations, the most prominent of which was Hyperborea. Lemuria did not advance as much as Hyperborea though its inhabitants were said to be physically stronger.

It is also revealed that the Ogdru Hem were worshipped there as gods and that they taught the Lemurians to harness powerful mystical abilities. The Lemurians would use these gifts granted to them by the Old Ones to better advance their civilization and culture and in turn would provide suitable sacrifices to the Old Ones. However, overtime they soon began to discover that these "gifts" were more along the lines of curses as the Lemurian civilization collapsed under the effects of madness, rebellion, famine, and war.
