You won't stand me, and how can you even stand what you don't know?
~ Khidre to Moses

Khidr also known as Al-Khidr is a mysterious sage said to possess great and mystical knowledge. He appeared to Moses and Muhammad (alongside many other individuals) to provide them with guidance.

Overview[]

Khidr is an enigmatic individual who is believed to have appeared before Moses in The Cave chapter of the Quran. Not much information is given of him aside from his God-given wisdom. Moses asks Khidre to teach him, but he is warned that he will not be able to endure what will occur.

History[]

Background[]

Many theories exist regarding the origins of Khidr and where he originated. Some suggest he was among the survivors of the Great Flood aside from Noah and his family, others believe he was among the people who traveled with Abraham, and there are those who say that he is the son of the Pharaoh that Moses defeated. It is also likely that he was Saint George himself.

Despite the theories regarding his identity and origins, the majority of them seem to agree on one thing, through one way or another. And it is that Khidr was given great wisdom by God, and with that he began to guide other people.

Opening Moses' Eyes[]

Despite wielding the Eyes of God, Moses would struggle to see the meaning behind the Speech of God. This also led to Moses struggling in saving the Jewish people from the Pharaoh, as they constantly entered into numerous trials and internal conflicts, and all Moses could do was follow God's command. To answer Moses' prayers, God sent him to Khidr, whose actions at first seemed to range from nonsensical to straight up malevolent. However, with the powers of his eyes, he could not deny the existence of the meaning there, but only until Khidr explained it to him. He should not pay heed to present events and how cruel they are, and should thus not give up hope on them or see them as if they will lead to nothing.

The two embark on a journey while riding a boat, only for Khidre starts destroying, later on he kills a child and help rebuilt a wall in a city the inhabitants of treated both of them badly without asking for anything back, Moses can't understand Khidr behavior and asks for an explanation which Khidre offers, the boat belonged to good people and was about to be taken by a king who like to steal ships, and now as the ship is destroyed he didn't find the desire to steal it, the boy had pious and good parents but was about to become a great sinner and be a tyrant over his parents, so by his death now he will be in heaven with other children and God will give his parents a good son, in the city there were good people who died, and under the wall Khidre rebuilt a treasure lies and by building it God is protecting the treasure until the children of those good people grow up, and thus Khidre explained all of his actions to Moses.
