Hermóðr, also known Hermod, was the messenger of Aesir-gods.
His father was Odin, the norse King of the Gods, and his brothers includes Thor, Baldr, Tyr, Hodr, Vidarr, Vali and Bragi. His mother is unknown.
After the death of Baldr and his wife Nanna, Odin ordered Hermod to travel to Helheim and try to return his brother, but the messenger failed to negotiate with Hel, the Norse Ruler of the Underworld.
His role among the norse gods is similar to the Greek god Hermes and his Roman counterpart Mercury.
