Hati.
Hati, his full name being Hati Hróðvitnisson and his first name meaning "He Who Hates, Enemy" in Old Norse is a demonic wolf known as a warg that according to Gylfaginning chases the Moon across the night sky.
Description[]
Hati is depicted as being more demonic in appearance compared to his brother Sköll, which is fitting considering that his name often means as "The One Who Hates" or the "Enemy". Hati's body and being is said to be "pitch black" like a raging tempest of shadows which ceaselessly chase the moon and its light.
Overview[]
Hati is the son of Fenrir, which is evidenced in his surname that indicates that he is the son of Fenrir, whose alternate name is Hróðvitnir ("Famous Wolf"). Hati's mother is the giantess, not named but mentioned in Völuspá and Gylfaginning, who dwells to the east of Midgard in the forest of Ironwood. Alongside his brother, Hati is the father of the Wargs.
Just as his brother Sköll chases the Sun during the day, until the time of Ragnarök, they will swallow these heavenly bodies, after which Fenrir will break free from his bonds and kill Odin. Hatí is possibly alluded to in Völuspá as "moon-snatcher". By the end of Ragnarök, it is said that Hati will be shot down by Skaði, the goddess of the hunt, with her arrows before being quickly subdued and slitting his belly open to return the luminescent light of the moon he swallowed.
