Guardian Spirits are spirits that are implanted within a Nichirin blade by one of the Shinto gods to help the slayers of Kisatsutai against the Oni. The Breathing Style imitated by the sword is attuned to the Guardian Spirit that is summoned by the slayer, and the wielder should synchronize their thoughts, instincts, and desires with the blade, prompting the spirit to adapt and enhance its powers according to the wielder's needs. Guardian Spirits are the ones who choose the wielder, determining their worth in carrying the blade that they reside within and not the other way around.
Guardian Spirits supposedly have no concrete forms, however depending on the blade and it's wielder, they can materialize in different forms if the slayer's genryoku is intensified by their Breathing Style. These spirits can assume various forms that range from humanoid, animal, and even mythical like a Lóng dragon. As manifestations of their wielders' spiritual energy, these forms can be freely moved around by their wielder, and the wielder can also see and hear out of these spirits to an extent, allowing them to scout areas before approaching them.
Guardian Spirits only manifest if the slayer's genryoku is very finely attuned with the Breathing Style that corresponds with the Nichirin blade's capabilities. Prolonged use of a wielder's Breathing Style being implemented with the Nichirin blade will result in their genryoku rising to great levels thus allowing the Guardian Spirit to manifest through their genryoku. With the Guardian Spirit by the slayer's side, they can aid in the manipulation and even consumption of genryoku which allows the wielder to perform a variety of enchanted superhuman feats that can make even the most fearsome yokai fall.
