Gostir (Art by Ursula Tabaka)

Gostir was a very powerful demon in the form of a three-headed dragon that encountered King Solomon. He is also known as the Head of the Dragons though he has no relation to the actual dragons born of Tiamat.

Overview[]

Gostir is a three-pronged spirit that is responsible for birth defects and epilepsy. He says he overpowers others through three deeds which correspond to his three heads. He can enter the wombs of women and blind the unborn, turn their ears around backward and make them deaf and dumb, and make men fall down, grind their teeth, and foam at the mouth. The third head is likely the most dangerous as it is responsible for temptation and corruption whilst the other two serve in a more typical physical destruction.

He is thwarted by an “angel of the Counselor” at Golgotha, preventing him from approaching Golgotha. His motives for attempting to enter Golgotha is unknown although his speech to Solomon may indicate that he is interested in what is buried beneath the city which according to legend is Adam's skull. Gostir tells King Solomon that a great deal of gold lies beneath the foundation of the Temple of Jerusalem, which Solomon has under construction. Solomon finds the gold and binds Gostir with his magical ring. He sentences the demon to a duration of servitude and commands him to make bricks for the temple.
