Ghostwire is an event that occurred in Tokyo, Japan two years after the Apocalypse. Like what happened with Chicago, spirits and monsters were able to pass through the weakened barrier that keeps them at bay from humanity.

Ghostwire is the name given to the event that occurred in Tokyo where the effects of the Apocalypse, more specifically the Convergence, created various ruptures through the veils that keep monsters and other supernatural beasts at bay but in the case of Japan's culture and religion, these creatures are known as Yōkai.
History[]
Background[]
A year after the Apocalypse, the effects of the planet-wide cataclysmic event has significantly weakened the Firmament that kept many monsters and supernatural creatures at bay. While it was truly destructive for Chicago it was less so in Japan but numerous casualties occurred nonetheless. The reverberating effects of Lucifer's tampering with the Convergence revealed to have weakened the barrier that kept Izanami, the goddess of the underworld, locked within Yomi along with all of her undead subjects.
Though it was not fully shattered for Izanami to truly free herself it was enough for her to reach out to any mortal that can be of some use to her plans. She found favor with a man named Hannya who had tragically lost his wife and daughter. Izanami communicated him in the false guise of a benevolent kami where she promised that she could reunite him with his wife and daughter by completing an ancient rite that would continuously weaken the barrier and allow the Underworld to seep in through the mortal world. He agreed and gathered and as he was working towards his goals for Izanami he gathered followers in the process known as the Faceless, a menacing group of zealots who bend to his will.
Ghostwire[]
In order to reunite with his departed wife and daughter, he performs a ceremony at a shrine located in a restricted area of Kirigaoka which summons malevolent spirits into the mortal realm. With the Convergence having been instrumental in this ceremony, Hannya unleashed a catastrophic fog native to Yomi upon Tokyo that wipes out most of its population whereby it extracts their souls to be used as nourishment for the Yōkai and other demonic spirits that are released from the ruptured barriers that now roam the streets of Tokyo.
This event prompted the Federal Bureau of Control to create a containment zone around all of Tokyo while the Kisatsutai organization send some of their warriors over to investigate and attempt to revert the destructive effects Hannya had unleashed upon Japan.
