Genasi.
Genasi, more commonly known as Elementals, are the embodiments of nature and its many forms.
Overview[]
Commonly referred to as "Nature's Angels" and often mistaken for fairies, elves, or sprites; many of these nature spirits have come to serve God under the rule of the Archangels, though there are also those who manage to become venerated as gods themselves, and still others which have remained as wild, living manifestations of nature that yield to no master.
Description[]
Genasi do not have a definite form or appearance, but tend to manifest as embodiments of a particular element, generally Water, Earth Fire, Or Air, and will take on a humanoid form when speaking to intelligent species.
Fire Genasi
Fire Genasi[]
Fire Genasi may appear as a tiny spark, a face in a candle flame or a raging bonfire. They can move around as flaming balls of heat, or walk around in a burning humanoid form. The language of the fire genasi is said to be full of rhythmic crackling and fiery hisses.
Fire Genasi are generally savage in nature, seeking to destroy all that surrounds them, leaving only dying embers. This behavior however is apparently misunderstood; as a result of their elemental nature, Fire Genasi view themselves as a purifying blaze sent to eradicate all things frail and prone to withering away, and the revealers of that which is truly strong and able to stand in the face of adversity. Fire Genasi possess great respect for those who are able to withstand the intense heat of their presence, as well as those who possess an undying and burning hunger for success.
Among the most well known of Fire Genasi are the Phoenix and Salamander species, which inhabit the sky and the ground respectively as animalistic embodiments of their shared element.
Air Genasi
Air Genasi[]
Air Genasi may manifest as a tiny whirlwind in the dust, or as a forceful wind. The language of the Air Genasi consists of howling winds, airy whispers, and distant whistles. Air Genasi flow with the wind, traveling seemingly aimlessly across the Earth and skies while observing all that lies below.
These Genasi are infamous for their ability to be uncontainable and uncontrollable and unpredictable due to their elemental nature. Air Genasi can be beneficent, seeking to play with humans by guiding their kites through the air and providing cooling breezes to those in need, but they can also be dangerous, especially when upset or enraged. When an Air Genasi is enraged, they will tend to create great cyclones of wind and summon turbulent, tempestuous weather.
Though often considered to be turbulent in personality, Air Genasi are believed to possess great respect for those who enter the realm of sky through flight or by achieving great heights; because of this, Air Genasi are said to protect those who engage in airplane travel, climb mountains, or simply live in tall buildings, but show pity and contempt for those who remain grounded to the Earth.
Atmospheric Beasts are said to be the largest of the air elementals, manifesting as gargantuan beasts made of mist and cloud that float above the Earth, looming ominously overhead in silence.
Water Genasi
Water Genasi[]
A Water Genasi appear as a puddle, the dew upon the morning grass, or a deep pool of water. The language of the Water Genasi is said to sound like the crashing of waves when enraged, but as soft as a babbling brook when at peace.
Water Genasi can be seen in both a creative and destructive light. On one hand, Water Genasi are believe to be responsible for the distribution of water to the flora and fauna of the natural world, ensuring the continued existence of life upon the planet Earth. On the other hand, Water Genasi are also capable of manifesting floods or storms and inundating human settlements without warning, or alternately they may refuse to provide water to drought stricken areas despite the supplication of humans.
As water extinguishes fire, so too are Water Genasi able to dominate the majority of Fire Genasi, with the exception of those whose gargantuan size prevents them from being extinguished by an ordinary Water Genasi. Water is also able to erode the integrity of Earth over time, a trait reflected in their interaction with Earth Genasi, who are often unable to contend with the sheer adaptability of the Water Genasi they encounter. In truth, Water Genasi respect and seek to nourish those who possess the traits of creativity and adaptability, and loath those who do not.
River Serpents are said to be some of the most ancient Water Genasi in existence, dating back to the antediluvian period, when they used their elemental abilities to guide animals across the globe towards the location of Noah's Ark. Afterwards, these same serpents are also said to have guided the animals towards new habitants where each species could thrive and prosper.
Earth Genasi
Earth Genasi[]
An Earth Genasi may appear as a small stone, an ancient boulder, or a towering mountain. Some Earth Genasi are believed to be the most gargantuan of elemental kind, even being responsible for the occasional shifting of the tectonic plates and the generation of earthquakes. Many are believed to lie dormant for long periods of time before awakening with might tremors signaling of their return. The language of the Earth Genasi is said to sound like a metallic rumble and the grinding of stones.
Earth Genasi are known for their tendency to destroy man made structures, especially those made of stone, which they find displeasing. Earth Genasi are believed to detest that which is fragile, brittle, and unstable, leading to their tendency to destroy man made structures. Occasionally however, Earth Genasi will show reverence for particular manmade structures of great endurance, magnitude and stability. Earth Genasi are also believed to view mountains in high regard; many Earth Genasi will seek to make a pilgrimage to the top of a mountain as their ultimate life goal, ending their life by reaching the highest point before ceasing motion and becoming one with the mountain.
One subset of Earth Genasi are known as Swamp Things, which are specifically composed of plants. Swamp Things are tasked by Gaia to watch over the environment and humanity, serving as guardians of the plants and vegetation of the earth, and acting as the nexus point between the inner world of the supernatural and the outside world of the natural.
Elemental Gods[]
Some gods may be regarded as Elementals due to their connection and control over the elements. An elemental can also be worshiped as a false god when they take the shape and form of a being that a certain group of people worship. For example, a water elemental can take the shape of a dragon, and then be worshipped by the Japanese, who will believe the dragon to be the god Ryujin, who rules over the seas.
Agni[]
Agni is the Hindu god of fire and the twin brother of Indra, the king of the gods. Agni is the son of the Celestial Waters, an element closely connected with Fre which in Hinduism is thought to be carried down to Earth within Rain. From there fire is drawn up by vegetation and so when two sticks are rubbed together fire appears. Agni is also responsible for lightning which is born from the god's union with the cloud goddess. Another fire Agni is associated with is the funeral-pyre; in this role he leads the dead to their final judgement by Yama, ruler of the Underworld. Agni is perhaps most closely associated with sacrificial fires where he is thought to carry the offerings of humans to the gods.
Logi[]
Logi is a Jötunn and the personification of fire in Norse mythology. The Old Norse name Logi is generally translated as 'fire', 'flame', or blaze'. In the Gylfaginning ('The Beguiling of Gylfi'), Logi appears in the tale of Thor and Loki's journey to the castle of the giant Útgarða-Loki in Jötunheimr, where Loki is pitted against Logi in an eating contest, and succeeds in overpowering him with his ravenous ferocity.
Fujin[]
Fujin is the Japanese god of the wind and one of the eldest Shinto gods. He is portrayed as a terrifying wizard-like demon, resembling a red headed brown-skinned humanoid wearing a leopard skin, carrying a large bag of winds on his shoulders. In Japanese art, the deity is often depicted together with Raijin, the god of lightning, thunder and storms. Both Fujin and Raijin were born from the Shinto Earth mother Izanami after her death.
Pazuzu[]
Pazuzu is the king of the demons of the wind, brother of Humbaba and son of the god Hanbi. Pazuzu is believed to hold domain over the southern wind, and thus is seen as an extremely powerful entity, superior to the likes of even Lamashtu. Pazuzu is known for bringing famine during dry seasons, and locusts during rainy seasons.
