False prop

A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
~ Matthew 7:15
His lips may honor God but his heart is far from Him.
~ Matthew 15:8

A False Prophet is a person who falsely claims the gift of prophecy or divine inspiration, or to speak for God, or who makes such claims for evil ends.

Description[]

In a wider sense, it is anyone who, without having it, claims a special connection to the Deity and sets him or herself up as a source of spirituality, as an authority, preacher, or teacher. Analogously, the term is sometimes applied outside religion to describe someone who fervently promotes a theory that the speaker thinks is false.

Overview[]

They appear in the Abrahamic faiths, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and all of them see him in a similar light: A man who comes to the world, spreading a false faith, which true believers must ignore and fight against. Though The False Prophet, of Revelations, has yet to come, many other, minor, false prophets exist, leading cults and groups of people who are desperate for answers. They often style themselves as religious leaders, and claim to know the true path to enlightenment.
