Fables.
The Fables are the characters from fairy tales and folklore who originated from the magical Homelands.
Description[]
The difference between the Fables and the creatures whom physically roam the mortal plane what the former is inspired by is that Fables are more akin to what is known as Tulpas or thought-forms, meaning that Fables are products of the human mind but ones with a certain "spark" as Dream would say. Overtime, much like any Tulpa, the Fables garnered so much attention and reverence from audiences that they have integrated themselves within the laws of our reality.
Originally, they were formless, abstract thought-forms drawn to the collective unconscious regarding ancient or old folktales that were passed around by humans long before the Brothers Grimm came to be and gave them meaning and purpose. They are often considered to be the physical manifestations of fictional or literary tales.
Unlike the tales that children read, Fables are in fact more darker and disturbing, being more closely related to, or in this case are, the tales written by the Brothers Grimm. Many Fables are not like what children have come to know them to be for some are said to be quite violent, wrathful, vindictive, promiscuous, and so on. Basically, they appear to exhibit humanly traits despite the fact that they are not even human to begin with.
Overview[]
Talking animals, humans, fairies, trolls, ogres, goblins, dwarves, witches, giants, dragons, and other creatures are but a sample of all the kinds of Fables that exist. The lives and exploits of many of these creatures have been leaked into the consciousness of various human authors and therefore their stories, albeit deformed, have been told for centuries within the mortal world.
Although all denizens of the Homelands can be considered Fables, not all Fables develop certain traits that only some of them seem to possess. The Fables are said to be governed by Dream of the Endless, or Morpheus, who is the personification of stories and can freely roam between the magical Homelands and the Dreamlands which is the abode of Dream. However, no Fable has special privilege for while they are given passage to roam the Dreamlands they must make a request to have an audience with the Dream King.
Much like the gods of monotheism, when a Fable dies they are not taken by Death but rather by Dream for like the gods, who are the products of tales and legends, the Fables return to the Dreamlands from whence they came upon dying. Based on the popularity of their respective stories, Fables gain power that manifests mainly in the form of immortality. By their very nature, many Fables are long-lived creatures, but a popular Fable can stop aging altogether and develop remarkable healing abilities that could help them survive otherwise fatal injuries. However, this does not mean that they are invulnerable.
A Fable, no matter how popular, can be killed. Once dead, they could potentially come back from the dead, provided their story be popular enough, or alternatively the role they left could be occupied by another Fable instead. However, upon dying, a Fable is to be judged by the Council of Dream, seeing if their reputation would be enough for them to return to the land of the living.
