Eva was the human wife of Sparda, mother to the hybrid twins Dante and Vergil, and paternal grandmother of Nero, Beatrice, and Sapia.
Overview[]
Her death at the hands of Mundus' demonic minions is what lead both Dante and Vergil down the paths they are in now, especially since they felt they could have prevented her death due to being the Sons of Sparda but were merely children at the time and the guilt of not saving her has haunted them ever since. She is the main factor behind the motives of Dante and Vergil.
History[]
Background[]
It is revealed that Eva, before meeting the demon knight Sparda, was in fact an extremely powerful and well-renowned witch. She was also a member of the Apostles of Hecate whom are a clan of extremely powerful witches and wiccans that form pacts with demons or gods. Eva was groomed to become a mighty witch in the coven ever since she was a little girl and even during the early stages of her training was recognized as a prodigy in the usage of witchcraft and sorcery. More surprisingly is that, despite her seemingly gentle nature, Eva was also an accomplished and extremely skilled combatant due to part of the training involves using magic in conjunction with physical combat.
Meeting the Legendary Dark Knight[]
Throughout her life, Eva and the Apostles worked to keep the forces of darkness from invading the human world even having to use the aid of those very same demonic forces although it is known that the Apostles use the infernal demons as familiars in a sense after defeating and gain acquisition of their soul to use for their own purposes. It was not until Eva met with none other than the Legendary Dark Knight himself, Sparda, that her life changed forever.
Eva and Sparda met in the midst of Sparda's travels, centuries after he destroyed the Seven Gates of Hell and aided Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades in defeating Dracula and other powerful forces. Despite the destruction of the gates and the sealing of the seven kings, the aftermath affected humans to where it caused them, either unintentional or malignant, to summon demonic spirits. She along with the Apostles were tasked with keeping the many regions of the world, with the aid of other powerful covens, safe from the oncoming forces of darkness. Though their relationship was at first rocky due to Sparda being a demon, she began to see who Sparda really was and the two eventually fell in love.
Marriage and Death[]
When the world was saved by Sparda once more, Eva left the coven and eloped with the Dark Knight, culminating in them marrying and deciding to live in peace. Overtime, Eva gave birth to twin sons, Dante and Vergil, whom inherited Sparda's enormous power as well as Eva's latent talent for magic. Though her death affected the twins deeply, they both stated time and again that were it not for her, they would not be who they are now.
They constantly hold her in high regard and love and say that no human has a "fire" like her. However, for a time, Vergil was bitter towards her due to believing that she loved Dante more than she loved him and as a result felt abandoned by her when that was truly not the case at all. During the near climax of the Apocalypse, when Vergil was on the verge of death at the hands of Lucifer, he was visited by his mother who showed him that she did not abandon him but was also desperately looking for Vergil after she hid Dante and that she has always loved them equally.
