Emily Hartwood is the partner and lover of Richard Carnby who, after an altercation in attempting to retrieve the Heart Stone, had her soul bonded with Richard. They now operate a detective agency that is also now merged with the B. P. R. D.
Appearance[]
Emily appears as a tall dark-haired Caucasian woman who dresses in the fashion of the 1930s, and has her hair in a 1920s flapper-style bob cut. Ever since her soul was bonded with her husband, she would manifest in his place and thus take his trench coat with her own regular attire consisting of a long yellow dress and a mint-green shirt.
History[]
Background[]
Emily was clueless as to her origin, never knowing her true parents or even her true last name. Emily did not even know anything was strange about her life, being raised in blissful ignorance by her abductors in a massive compound secluded from the outside world.
In 1899 she was taken from them as a baby by a demonic cult who intended to sacrifice her on the eve of the new century, along with another, male child. Fortunately they were saved by Edward Grey and Sarah Jewell, members of the Silver Lantern Club in London.
Grey and Jewell guarded the children and while under the mentorship of the two hunters, both of whom excel in the investigation and paranormal department, they learned the ways of the supernatural and crime solving. Overtime, Emily and Richard grew attracted to one another and upon reaching puberty, they were given the names of Emily Hartwood and Richard Carnby, and sent out into the wider world to battle evil.
Psychic Investigator[]
They ended up in Louisiana in the 1920s, where they became involved in a case surrounding the disappearance of Emily's uncle and uncover the mysteries in Derceto. After this harrowing experienced, they decided to open up a supernatural detective agency and battled various dangerous foes. They also joined the British Paranormal Society during their investigation of the shadowy town of Innsmouth.
In 1945, Richard sacrificed himself to stop Rhan-Tegoth, a terrible creature belonging to the Ogdru Hem. To save him, Emily bonded his soul with hers using the Heart Stone, one of the Ab Initio Artifacts. Since then they have lived in the same body, unable to both exist in the physical realm simultaneously. Emily and Richard would come to join the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense by merging their agency with theirs all the while they would look out for the "little guy" who are endangered by the influence of the Old Ones.
