Éljúðnir is Hel's hall located within Helheim of Norse mythology.
Description[]
Éljúðnir is the hall of the death goddess Hel and her main dwelling much like the House of Hades. Though not much is seen of the hall, what can be described based on its few appearance is that it is comprised of "sleet and rain", the walls in particular being damp with such content, and with the outer surroundings of the hall being sprayed with snowstorms.
Much like the shades who mill through the halls of Hades, the dead are also seen milled within Hel's hall only difference being is that they are used as decorative carvings on the walls of Éljúðnir, suspended as though they were frozen by the unforgiving cold of the realm itself.
Following the threshold that is actually a pitfall called Fallandaforað meaning "falling to peril" located within the center of the hall sits Hel herself where she holds court for the dead that fall into her realm and assigns her staff to perform certain tasks. Beside her rests Garmr, who lounges languidly or can be called to guard Hel's gates. Beyond Hel's throne is her bedroom that is hidden within a dark chamber draped with curtains called Blikjandaböl which means "Gleaming Disaster.
