The Demonic Paradise Wiki

The cruel master seems to have forgotten me. Then I'll make you remember. My name is Eligos. I'm a marquess, the 15th Pillar who commands 60 armies and a demon of the battlefield!
~ Eligos

Eligos is the 15th spirit of the Ars Goetia and a Grand or Great Archduke of Hell and Hades, ruling 60 legions of demons.

Overview[]

Eligos may reveal hidden secrets within the self, outer as well. Eligos is also a divinatory spirit as well, who may reveal the coming of wars, unrest and battles.

He knows all the secrets of war and sees the future. He teaches leaders to win the loyalty of soldiers. He discovers hidden things, within or outside the self, and knows of things to come, particularly in war. He causes love between people.

The "battle" doesn't have to be of military nature, either. It is known that this demon has helped humans in legal battles as well, giving key directives and influencing the outcomes of trials.

Appearance[]

Eligos appears as a handsome man in a red coat and copper helmet on a red horse.

He is depicted in the form of a goodly and chivalrous knight carrying a lance, an ensign and a scepter or serpent. Alternatively he is depicted as a ghostly specter, sometimes riding a semi-skeletal (sometimes winged) horse, or the Steed of Abigor.

History[]

Fall from Grace[]

Eligos was among the order of angels that joined Lucifer's rebellion. He was noted for his impressive record in strategic warfare allowing him to achieve many victories over his enemies during the War in Heaven. Inevitably, however, he was defeated and cast out by Michael alongside the rest of his fallen cohorts. After his descent into Hell and the establishment of the infernal kingdom, he was appointed as the Great Archduke of Hell.

Eligos is a highly respected demon due to his deep knowledge of warfare and famed throughout the infernal realm for his many victories in the War in Heaven. He is a knight of the Order of the Fly, riding a mount said to be bound with a thousand shackles, as he patrols the skies of Malebolge. The steed once resided in the Garden of Eden and would be ridden by Adam and Eve. After the fall, the horse died from spiritual corruption. Beelzebub resurrected the animal. It stood up, maggots crawling all over its partly decomposed body and fire coming from its nostrils. The horse was then given to Eligos as a gift.

Apocalypse[]

Eligos was among the many demonic participants during the Apocalypse, having been summoned by Lucifer to aid him in coming of a New World Order. As he was by his station, Eligos was confronted by the angel, Immanuel, and recalled the events during the Heavenly War where it was Immanuel that struck him down. This prompted a fierce battle between Eligos and Immanuel with the former proving to be quite the formidable opponent. Eventually, Eligos was overwhelmed and defeated when Immanuel assumed his Ascension Form and seemingly destroyed him, only to realize that he destroyed his physical body as his spirit form instead lingered.

Sargatanas' Captain[]

He was also defeated by the Ghost Rider on the bridge of Morgan Le Fay's castle, stripping him of his rank and power and casting him into the Pit after he attempted to steal Hellboy's Right Hand of Doom by orders of Beelzebub. Injured by the Ghost Rider, the Duke was discovered by Sargatanas, the Brigadier-Major General of Hell who was staging a rebellion against the dark powers of the Inferno and lead his fallen brothers to salvation. Sargatanas took him back to his stronghold and had his wounds tended to by Iron Maidens.

Sargatanas wants him to be the captain for his armies and when Eligos asks why he is making him part of his legion, Sargatanas responds with a question of his own, "How long are you willing to sully yourself as Beelzebub's lapdog?" This made Eligos ponder for a moment until he accepted his role as Sargatanas' captain. Marchosias is skeptical of this, believing that Eligos is simply a spy for Beelzebub and is willing to betray them at a moments notice. But Sargatanas is not concerned as he can tell the difference between an abused soldier and a valued one.

Power and Abilities[]

Eligos is a powerful demon, able to compete with adept warriors and combatants. During the War in Heaven, his strategic battle prowess allowed him to overcome many of the Heavenly Host's angelic warriors. During the early stages of the Apocalypse, Eligos battled and held his own against Immanuel, gaining the upper hand against the angel several times throughout their battle.

When was appointed as Sargatanas' captain, Eligos showed tremendous skill in rallying the rebellious legions of Hell and later during the Tribulation, was able to carve through untold numbers of demons loyal to Beelzebub and even hold his own against the Lord of the Flies alongside Sargatanas before he was killed by the demon king.

As a demon of warfare, he discovers things and knows the future of wars and how soldiers should meet along with instructing leaders of the ways to earn their soldiers' respect. As a Duke, he is said to be ”bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.” He knows all the secrets of war and foresees the future. He also attracts and procures the favor of lords, knights and other important people. He can kindle love and lust (though not as much as other demons like Gremory, Sitri and Zepar) and also marshals armies and causes war.

He is apt for divination and the performance of spells to strategize one's life. He can coerce spirits and bring about financial success. He can reveal any black magic or spiritual influence which is working against you and impart advice on how to handle a feud. He can advise you when and when not to use magic and give aid in court cases.

Myth and Legends[]

The old magicians generally agreed that Eligos is a spirit of military energy. He is an advisor to armies and some believe that when called upon, he helps bring them to victory. According to the Grand Grimoire, he is a direct subordinate of Fleurety who is a direct subordinate to Beelzebub. Eligos though is more loyal to Beelzebub than Fleurety. He is also the helper of the demon Vaal.

Eligos holds the rank of duke and commands  sixty legions of demonic spirits. It is said that he also knows the secrets of the future and can instruct leaders in ways to earn the respect of their soldiers. There is a legend that Eligos roams the earth planting seeds of discontent among nations and their leaders, thus provoking wars. He is skilled at deception and trickery.
