Dylan Dog is a hunter and paranormal investigator from the United States whose goal is to keep the relationship between monsters and humans stable and destroy anyone that seeks to undo that stability.

Overview[]

Dylan Dog is a private detective who specializes in the supernatural and the paranormal with his operations taking place across the states though in his case it is mainly New York City. His job is similar to Alexandra Trese, another paranormal investigator in the Philippines and his counterpart, where the two deal with supernatural crimes and making sure the peace between monster and man is not interrupted so long as they stay out of one another's hair.

Being a private detective, Dylan is a loner though he does not mind company as seen with his assistant Groucho. He also tends to solve cases alongside other supernatural investigators such as John Constantine and Tom Judge but at times tends to avoid hunters since to him they usually shoot first and ask questions later, not bothering to differentiate between which monster is good or evil.

Appearance[]

Dylan is depicted as a six foot Caucasian man wearing a red shirt, black jacket, blue jeans and shoes. Even during bad weather Dylan never wears a coat or uses an umbrella, because the coat "would ruin his look" and finding the umbrella a "useless invention. Especially when it rains."

Personality[]

Dylan is known for his sombre and melancholic personality which is an expected trait considering his job description. Dylan typically avoids emotional intimacy, preferring to engage with women only as sexual partners, mainly due to his fear of his loved ones getting killed in the line of fire or them leaving him for the sake of their safety though the latter he has no complaints over. Dylan, like most other characters, has suffered many tragedies and in response would drown out his sorrows with alcohol and smoking.

Surprisingly, Dylan suffers from various phobias, which can sometimes be an obstacle in his line of work. In addition to being claustrophobic and afraid of heights, he is also extremely aerophobia and absolutely refuses to travel abroad by plane which is why he always uses his car to drive from state to state. He also does not mind traveling by boat (though suffering from sea sickness). The requirement to the customer is always, "no planes".

Despite these traits, Dylan is very laid-back and well-disposed when not on the hunt, and he values the safety of his friends and innocent civilians above all else, even his own life. Though on occasion he can be somewhat impulsive as well as arrogant, Dylan is both extremely intelligent and competent. He is more likely to exhibit irrational behavior when his his loved ones are threatened.

Dylan is described as an "old soul" despite his age as he has little interest in the many aspects of modern life. He does not like mobile phones and, to keep his journal, relies on a quill pen and inkwell. He is shown to love reading, especially poetry, and enjoys listening to music whose interests range from classical to heavy metal, and is quite fond of horror films.
