Dökkálfar or Dark Elf.

The Dökkálfar, or the Dark Elves, are a race of elves that dwell in caves deep underground and are thought to be as different from Light Elves in behavior as they are in appearance. With skin darker than night, glowing blue eyes, and clad in blue grey armor.

Description[]

Their counterparts, the Ljósálfar, live in Alfheim, while the Dökkálfar dwell underground and look, and particularly behave, quite unlike the Ljósálfar. The Ljósálfar are described as "fairer than the sun to look at", while the Dökkálfar are "blacker than pitch". They are said to have eyes like the moon as it illuminates on the dark surface of water and are even shown to have luminescent pigments across their cheeks or shoulders that resemble stars.

While they are similar to Svartálfar, or Drows, they are a different species of elf. Dökkálfar are more intertwined with the likes of dark magic and chaos magic whilst Svartálfar can only utilize said magic and nothing more. Both dark and chaos and magic does have adverse effects on the Svartálfar as evident with their skin and eyes but Dökkálfar are connected to such magic more intimately to when wounded they do not bleed a substance normally found in elves.

Overview[]

By the 17th century, in Christian folk-lore, they were blamed for causing disease to cattle and people by using elf-shot (a type of crossbow bolt or arrow). The arrow-heads could also be used in rituals by both elves and witches. They were also particularly noted to be in a constant conflict with their light-based counterparts for good reason as the warring factions between the Dökkálfar and the Ljósálfar represents the eternal spiritual struggle between good and evil.

In fact, dark elves were blamed for almost everything from a tangle in the hair, called an elf-lock to sudden paralysis – elf-stroke. They were also thought to be the bringers of bad dreams. They are very brutal and cruel by nature, having little mercy when it comes to cheating, battling, or anything dealing with the life of another being. They have little respect for even their own kind, at times waging war against each other. However, clans are known to band together to combat invasions and attacks by other races.
