Crocell is the 49th spirit of the Goetia, known for manifesting as an angel and having a tendency to speak in dark and mysterious ways, as well as for his association with the element of water.
Overview[]
Once a member of the Powers, he is now a Duke of Hell who rules over 48 legions of demons. When summoned by a conjuror, he can teach geometry and other liberal sciences. He can also warm bodies of water, create the illusion of the sound of rushing waters, and reveal the location of natural baths.
Whereas other spirits in the Lemegeton are described as having monstrous shapes, riding on bizarre mounts, and having gravelly voices, Crocell apparently has no steed and prefers to be seen in his original angelic appearance.
Description[]
He is associated with water. Described as a dashing mermaid-like figure with a captivating voice, Crocell emanates a graceful and mesmerizing aura. His primary attributes are wisdom, cunning and the ability to impart knowledge of Arcane arts and Hidden Truths to those who seek it. With his connection to water Crocell can manipulate emotions, bringing about serenity or tumultuous storms, both literal and emotional.
Crocell's name is derived from the Latin word "crocellatus," meaning "rattling" or "rustling," signifying the soothing sound of water flowing over pebbles. This essence mirrors the demon's calming influence over turbulent emotions, making it a sought-after ally for those seeking emotional balance and spiritual enlightenment.
His portrayal contrasts with the more malevolent depictions of other demons, highlighting his more scholarly and educational attributes. His angelic form represents enlightenment, knowledge, and the bridging of the earthly with the spiritual, the intersection between knowledge and the occult.
