Before light, I was endless, without name or need of name. Then light came. Witnessing its otherness, I suffered my first knowledge of self, and all contentment fled.
~ Chaos

Chaos, also known as Kaos, was the original formless void and order-less state preceding the creation of the multiverse and cosmos. The void became the Primordial entity that rules over the void and the abyss, becoming the leader of the Greek Protogenoi, its own creations and their Roman counterparts.

Overview

In Greco-Roman Mythology, Chaos had birthed many primordial deities who would later rule specific concepts of Creation. The most well known being Tartarus (Abyss), Eros (Love), Erebus (Darkness), Nyx (Night) and Gaia (Mother Earth). Gaia then brought forth Ouranos, the starry heavens and her male equal, to be her companion. With him she gave birth to the Titans and some of the other primordial deities. Both Nyx and Erebus together starting creating Second-Generation Primordials who would rule other concepts as well.

It later became the remaining "gap" created from the original separation of Heaven and Earth; although the aspect of being the gap of the universe falls to Il Separatio, while Chaos is a dark, silent, and infinite oddity with no trace of life whatsoever. This primordial, annihilating chaos is ever-present; wherever there is nothing, wherever there is the void and abyss, wherever any wish or belief is negated, there is Chaos.

Appearance

Chaos has no definite true form. It appears mainly in the form of a vast absolute blackness or dark mass, apparently endless, which expands into any area in which it finds itself and devours everything in sight. Despite not having a true shape, it usually takes the form of a thin, naked, hairless entity that seems like some hollowfic rotoscoping movements, even when it's just standing.

History

Genesis

When God said, "Let there be Light" The light cast a shadow upon the waters of chaos and from the shadow stepped forth the being that would come to be known as Azathoth who would then do battle against God as the light brought him great pain. Through Chaos, Azathoth manifested numerous ancient beings of great evil and destruction known as the Ogdru Jahad while God, with the assistance of Asherah manifested beings of great light and creation known as the Primordials to counter them.

The conflict eventually ended in God defeating Azathoth but even he could not destroy it. The Ogdru Jahad, in question, were rendered into a chrysalis-like state and placed into the depths of the "Outerverse". Before the Ogdru Jahad's imprisonment, they released many threads of themselves that multiplied into more slivers which soon formed and became known as a race called the Ogdru Hem.

Imprisonment

Chaos was locked away beyond the physical and conceptual borders that make up the universe itself. This barrier, known as the Last Firmament, encases all that is physical and nonphysical within God's grasp and keeps Chaos and Night at bay but Chaos and its court can be reached through the Abyss, a realm that acts as the borders of Hell itself, in some semblance of manner.

Personality

Because of its age and extreme power, Chaos is extremely detached from the rest of Creation. Chaos is completely stoic and emotionless. It sees events, like the War in Heaven, Titanomachy, or any sort of divine/demonic conflict completely not worth its time or interest. Chaos seems to view life as unimportant, insignificant, and minuscule, even comparing Zeus to the smallest microbe, showing that it sees life in Creation the same way humans see bacteria. Christ sees this as the complete opposite of God, as it is said to be dark while God is brilliant.

As a Primordial Being, Chaos does not care about the situation of lower beings or deities. It is an indifferent and cold entity to both it worshipers and creations. Chaos spends most of its time "sleeping", returning to itself without its original form and allowing its consciousness to permeate and infiltrate all levels of Creation. Chaos is more of an impersonal and unconscious force than a real deity.

Power and Abilities

From Genesis to every creation myth that you know it always begins with a creator using the chaotic waters that surround them to create all of existence as we know it. Chaos is the first building block to make everything that's around us. That in of itself is a testament to how powerful it is.
~ Raphael

Chaos is among the most powerful entities that ever existed. Its power is equal to that of God Himself, the latter being a "shade more" powerful. In contrast to its consort Night who is Nothingness and Darkness, Chaos embodies the concepts of primordial chaotic winds and an unimaginably distorted and destructive space. Moreover, however, Chaos is said to be what makes up the concept of the universe itself and as a result, albeit indirectly though, it is the progenitor of the ancient gods that came to be.

Due to its position as a personification of the void, it wields immeasurable levels of power far greater than those of any existing deity, immortal, and primordial. Another testament to its might is that it is constantly regarded as the one and true supreme threat to the multiverse, and all its powered mortals, living or dead, abstract conceptual beings, cosmic entities and lesser divinities. Even beings as powerful as the Endless fear it.
