Brief summary of Finnish mythology & folklore

Most Finnish mythology known today comes from the Kalevala, a poetry collection and national epic put together by Elias Lönnrot between 1835 & 1849, collected from oral sources around old Finland.

The mythology of Finland also shares a lot of common with it's Baltic, Scandinavian and Germanic neighbours, making many gods, figures and concepts somewhat similar.

Sami folklore is also related to the mythology.

Later Christian and classical Gerco-Roman imagery has also influenced the portrayal of the gods, heroes, villains, locations and events.
