Bokrug
Bokrug, also known as the Great Water Lizard, is one of the Ogdru Hem and a lake-dwelling god of the Thuum'ha, a semi-amphibious tribe located in Ib.
Description[]
Bokrug is a vastly large eldritch creature, resembling a vaguely iguana-shaped monster with a beard of writhing tendrils and a long tail tipped with a stinger.
History[]
Background[]
Like the rest of his ilk, Bokrug descended from the Ogdru Jahad and was likely among the many Old Ones who participated in the war against the gods for dominance over the Earth. Several millennia after the war, Bokrug took refuge in the land of Mnar situated in a distant archipelago where he would come to be worshipped by its natives known as the Thuum'ha, purpored relatives of the Deep Ones that live within Ib.
Bokrug would sleep beneath the calm waters of the archipelago that bordered Ib and the city of Sarnath and would be fed an appropriate annual sacrifice by the Thuum'ha to appease the Old One enough to provide them with bountiful harvests and longevity. However, it was not until humans came over to colonize the land that Bokrug's routine was disturbed. The humans cruelly slaughtered the populace of Ib, settled on the islands by building the great city of Sarnath, which stirred the Great Water Lizard into a frenzy. Bokrug's presence alone would have a profound effect on the marine wildlife within the waters, mutated into hideous monstrosities that aggressively lashed out against any human that rowed through the waters, essentially trapping the people of Sarnath.
On the one-thousandth anniversary of the destruction of the gray city of Ib, as the lake had swelled greatly, Bokrug finally meted out the fullness of his revenge on the proud people of Sarnath. The king of Sarnath collaborated with the High Priest to construct a tower that would serve as a repellent against the forces of Bokrug and the entity itself, using knowledge obtained from a tome known as the Book of the Deep. This tower was supposedly being the first lighthouse in recorded history, however, its power worked too well and while it did force the Great Water Lizard back into the depths, the power behind the tower decimated the palace of Sarnath forcing the remainder of its people to flee.
Modern Age[]
Bokrug would remain dormant for several thousand years until he would once again be stirred by modern settlers who built fishing towns on the archipelago. Bokrug made his presence known to the villagers when one of the fishermen dredged up a mysterious casket from the sea floor, which he subsequently opened and released some sort of supernatural power that awakened Bokrug. The lizard's awakening affected some of the villagers, regressing them to cultish ways of appeasing the Old One, but many defected from their own and settled on a neighboring island where they constructed a lighthouse that would be used to repel Bokrug's influence.
The fishing village that discreetly worshipped Bokrug would be known as Greater Marrow whilst that which stands against the Old One is called Little Marrow. Back and forth the villages would be at odds over Bokrug with tensions rising all the more as he attempts to communicate with his followers into finding the Book of the Deep. It is not until a fisherman named James Winslow sails to the coastal town of Greater Marrow to take up a job offer to be the town's local angler that he finds himself entangled by Bokrug's machinations.
