Axe of Perun
The Topor Peruna, also known as Axe of Perun or Hammer of Perun, was the weapon used by the Slavic god Perun. Besides being the weapon of Perun, it also became a important symbol for the pagans of Eastern Europe.
Appearance[]
The Topor Peruna is a two-handed war axe inscribed with Slavic rune onto the blade and along the handle itself. The handle appears to be wood made from the bark of a world tree to signify Perun's supreme authority over the gods.
Overview[]
It is unknown who forged Perun's axe though it is likely he created it himself. According to legend, Perun took a piece of the world tree, likely a large branch, and grafted iron-like material from the young Earth into a blade before inscribing it with sacred runes that are associated with his name and power. The axe behaves similarly to Thor's hammer Mjölnir to where it can return to Perun's hand when thrown and is capable of unleashing incredible power of destruction that can wipe out armies of Perun's enemies.
