"My father was...complex to say the least. Arrogant. Childish. Thoughtless..."
"You flatter him."
"Heh...but he was strong. And a good man."
~ Integra Hellsing and Trevor Bruttenholm

Sir Arthur Hellsing was the head of the Hellsing Organization, the father of Integra Hellsing, the older brother of Richard Hellsing, and Alucard's previous master.

Appearance[]

A youthful, young man, Arthur closely resembles his descendant Abraham Van Helsing in terms of facial and external features, most notably the two little hairs that stick up which resemble horns. While Arthur was blonde, Abraham's hair was brown. He also had a thick high-arching eyebrow, and a slicked, short albeit, messy hair, and was a tall man with an average build.

By 1989, Arthur had grown old. His hair had turned grey, and he has grown a mustache and a goatee. His hair, which was slicked to the back, now falls to the left similar to Irons' hair when he was young.

Like all businessmen during the 1940s in England, Arthur dresses in formal business attire; which consists of a white long-sleeved shirt with an added either crimson or blue tie, along with a tortilla or red vest and covered with an open brown or crimson suit, which matches his dress pants' coloring and is finished with a pair of black business shoes. He's also sometimes seen with a pair of gloves, that are either colored brown or white.

Overview[]

He was the head of the Hellsing family, and was the one who made his daughter, Sir Integra Hellsing, the head of the Hellsing Organisation, being wary of his younger brother Richard Hellsing. An efficient, yet cocky leader, Arthur was well respected by everyone, and eventually as he grew older; he became wiser and better understood the true nature of vampires.

Arthur's family was part of a government agency known as the Office of Strategic Reserve, a clandestine but top-secret Allied war agency that was founded during World War II and collaborated with other paramilitary organizations that fought against the Axis powers, especially the Germans, such as the Order of the Silver Cross and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Arthur would come to aid the heads of the two organizations in dismantling the Ahnenerbe's occult means of achieving victory in the war, among of which was him sending Alucard and his butler Walter Dornez to raid and destroy a facility that worked in the manufacturing of artificial vampires for Project Vampir Sturm.

At some point after the end of World War II, Arthur was accused of having Walter steal some of the research being developed by the Ahnenerbe for Vampir Sturm in order to empower Alucard further. His friend and later lover Jessica Valiant, a former member of the Howling Commandos, was in charge of the effort of finding proof of his innocence alongside his close associate Trevor Bruttenholm. Eventually, his name was cleared when it was proven that Varvara Rasputin of GRU Division "P" was framing Hellsing in an attempt to distract them from her own machinations regarding the Nazis' projects.

Personality[]

During his early life, Arthur was considered to be quite charismatic, cocky, and comical. He was well known for having flings with different women, sometimes even attending the Academy Awards to be around actresses. He also seemed sloppy, as the library was in a state of disarray as well as having dirty crockery stacked and strewn about the place. Furthermore, he's shown smiling during a serious conversation between the Round Table Council about the discovery of the Nazis working on something dangerous. Still, despite his cockiness, however, he ran the organisation efficiently and was particularly wary about using Alucard for missions.

Arthur was a playboy who had many flings throughout his years and was a heavy drinker even amidst important meetings in the OSR's War Room. He often tried to make a move on Jessica Valiant despite thinking of her as a woman he respects. He was believed by many to put his own wealth and income over the good of people. He was also careless and brash which was a trait that was criticised by Sir Irons and his own allies like Professor Broom. Nonetheless, Arthur was a man with extraordinary confidence in what he does, and in the soldiers he sends during missions, such as having complete faith in Jessica Valiant's efforts to clear his name and in Walter's abilities as a vampire hunter.

As he got older, and more prominently when his daughter Integra was born, Arthur became more humble, wiser, and eventually earned the respect of his comrades, having a lot more in common with his father and his father before him than anybody might think, as they were both clumsy, sarcastic and doesn't take serious situations too seriously and was both confident in their decisions of handling things. He was also very cautious and paranoid, especially when employing Alucard knowing full-well the destruction he can leave in his wake if he not supervised.
