Apothicon
The Apothicons, also known as as Ozzoth (lit. Changed), are evil and hostile creatures that reside within the Dark Nexus intending on conquering human realms.
Overview[]
Apothicons are monstrous creatures of the Dark Nexus and are that dimension's equivalent to Hell's demons. They possess extremely advanced and sophisticated technologies and utilize these advanced knowledge, combining with their own unholy magics and sorceries to have immense advantages over humanity.
History[]
Background[]
Apothicons operate on a similar level to that of biblical demons. According to a codex found by one of Requiem's scientists, Apothicons were originally divine beings known as Maykrs who use technology and magic endowed by their Elder Gods to subjugate and essentially vassalize 'lesser' civilizations. However, the purpose and divinity of the Maykrs were twisted and warped by a rogue Elder God known as Davoth when he discovered a realm beyond their own; the realm of mortals. Davoth sought to colonize and expand the ruling power of the Elder Gods but most of his fellow deities would not stand behind him. Davoth would come to harness the energies of the Dark Nexus and use it to corrupt the Maykrs into Apothicons. Not long after a great civil war ensued between Davoth's faction and Saraxis his own consort.
The Apothicons would mine material known as Element 115 and extract its temporal properties to create a tear between dimensions in order for Davoth to pass through. Seeing this, Saraxis had Vercanna collaborate with fellow elder god Bellekar to use the properties of this element to reach out and communicate with humanity from the Dark Nexus. They were able to communicate and ally themselves with a group of knights who would come together to form the Keepers and aided in repelling the Apothicons from bleeding out into their world. The Elder Gods who were against Davoth opted to create a final desperate bid to seal away Davoth from the mortal universe and sacrifice themselves in the process. The sorcerers within the Keepers would channel the respective elemental powers of the Elder Gods into their staffs before condensing them enough to take the shape of physical artifacts that culminated into what is known as the Rite of Solomon.
Cain's Sacrifice[]
Much later into the future, specifically during 1983, dimensional breaches that had appeared across the world due to the activities of the Ahnenerbe who sought to harness the infinite power of the Dark Nexus which they referred to as the Black Sun Dimension by performing the Rite of Solomon and traversing across the globe to find the seven artifacts that house the souls of the Elder Gods. They could only be found via the pages of the Tome of Kagistrilo which is being kept away by the Société Occulte who are actually the surviving Keepers. These breaches would ejects meteor fragments containing high volumes of Element 115 resulting in profound warping effects on the environment and its residents; effectively turning them into extra-dimensional undead controlled by the Apothicons. In response, the Office of Requiem was founded with the sole purpose of eradicating the Apothicons and their poisonous influence on the world all while using their greatest weapon; Cain.
During Requiem's seemingly final mission to ensure that the portal remains closed, Cain grabbed the Reality Inversion warhead before stepping in the Dark Nexus but not before bidding a farewell to his allies. The explosion closed the portal and stopped the outbreak. Cain would fight the seemingly infinite horde of Apothicons and their monstrous soldiers, never relenting nor resting as the Mark would fuel his rage endlessly to where even the Apothicons' mightiest of champions fell before him. Since time moves differently between our universe and the Dark Nexus, Cain had been on killing spree for seemingly thousands of years which was more than enough to keep the Apothicons away from our universe.
