Aphoom-Zhah, also known as the Cold Flame, is an Ogdru Hem that appears similar to Cthugha but cold and grey.

Appearance

Aphoom-Zhah is similar in appearance to its sibling Fthaggua in where it is an Old One that takes the appearance of a massive living flame sometimes accompanied by an unspeakably terrible grimace at the front. In contrast, its flames are cold and grey.

History

Background

Aphoom-Zhah was spawned by Cthugha and was the only one among his brethren to reach the Earth while Fthaggua would remain oncourse towards the planet and Cthugha its parent would be imprisoned within the cold star Fomalhaut. Upon reaching Earth, Aphoom-Zhah landed upon the primeval Hyperborea. There, Aphoom-Zhah was worshipped as a god by the Yeti, one of the early primal hominids who under the influence of the Cold Flame regressed into savage beasts known as the Gnoph Keh.

This put him in direct competition with other polar Old Ones like Ithaqua, who laid claim to the Yeti race long before Aphoom-Zhah and began to dispute with him for devotees. As a consequence, the Yeti would war with the Gnoph Keh which splintered sections of the continent based on the worship of these two alien deities. It was not until they caught the attention of the Inuit gods. When they were about to apprehend Aphoom-Zhah, it reacted with such violence that it froze the regions of Hyperborea and sunk deep beneath the polar ice caps in a frozen state.
