The Anunnaki, also known as the Anunna, or the Ancients, were a race of ancient extraterrestrial godly entities responsible for aiding humanity to build the first civilizations on Earth.
Overview[]
The Anunnaki are described as "ancient astronauts" who visited Earth and made contact with humans in antiquity and prehistoric times. Their arrival is what led to the proposal of the ancient astronaut theory, a theory that suggests that this contact influenced the development of modern cultures, technologies, religions, and human biology. The Anunnaki are what led to conspiracy theorists to discern that deities from most (if not all) religions are extraterrestrial in origin, and that advanced technologies brought to Earth by ancient astronauts were interpreted as evidence of divine status by early humans.

Background[]
The Anunnaki were among the first race of extraterrestrials to visit the Earth particularly during its primeval epoch. They arrived from the planet Nibiru, having come to Earth around 500,000 years ago and constructed a base of operations. Originally believed to mine gold after discovering that the planet was rich in the precious metal, the true reason for their arrival was due to the distress signal they received from the Great Race of Yith who they were closely associated with.
From what Milo Thatch of the B. P. R. D. could decipher in their tombs, the Anunnaki were given a glimpse of the End of Days from the Yithians' psychokinetic messages. The Anunnaki believed that humanity was instrumental in thwarting these apocalyptic events, thus opted to advance their society and capabilities. They appeared before the early descendants of Adam and Eve, offering them their assistance in surviving the harsh conditions of the planet in return for sharing the planet's resources with them. The humans would share the secrets they obtained from angels who pitied them with the Anunnaki and through a perfectly balanced mixture of science and the supernatural were able to help the humans advance and evolve faster than what is considered normal despite it taking several hundred years to do so.
According to Milo Thatch, the Anunnaki possessed technology that was so advanced it almost seemed like magic and were somehow able to harness the lingering power of the Secret Fire that dwelt within humanity to unlock their latent potential, creating many wondrous monuments and kingdoms. Their activities would not go unnoticed by Heaven and instead of treating the Anunnaki with hostility, the angels who still stood in support for the human race would express their gratitude by raising a continent from deep beneath the ocean courtesy of Rahab; the Golden Kingdom of Hyperborea.
Disappearance[]
The Anunnaki were revered and worshiped as gods for their intellect and advanced science for a time, but it was not until the Ogdru Hem would come into play that the Hyperboreans would rebel against their former gods back on Lemuria. The Anunnaki would lend their assistance to the Hyperboreans by showing the high king how to create the first weapon; the Sword of Hyperborea, a weapon containing the Secret Fire that threatened to destroy even the psychokinetic forms of the Old Ones.
Unfortunately, their time of prosperity came to an end, for despite wielding advanced minds, weapons, and knowledge that allowed them to repel the spirits of the Ogdru Hem, they could not overwhelm them for long as seen when Yhoundeh poisoned their wills and minds. The appearance of the Elk-Goddess confirmed some of the Anunnaki's fears, the Ogdru Hem will retain their presence on Earth, even long after the destruction of their physical bodies. Some of the Anunnaki opted to go to extreme lengths of destroying the planet and eradicating the Ogdru Hem with it but others were against such an absurd proposal, prompting an internal strife amongst the ranks of the Anunnaki. Those who proposed the destruction of the Earth, would build a great machine known only as the Star Harvester where they would use this machine to manipulate the orbital gravity of a planet, creating a gravitational tunnel that would pull said planet towards the Earth and effectively destroying it. In addition, the Anunnaki developed hyperspace gates known as Stargates which when enhanced with a Spatial Lense would transport the oncoming planet instantously towards Earth. This is what scientists within the B. P. R. D. would dub as the Nibiru Cataclysm.
During this internal strife, Rahab, in a fit of rage and desperation to protect the Hyperboreans, and also going against the orders of Heaven, tore into the continent, flooding massive sections of the land and even tore a chunk of the continent off in sheer anger. The flood destroyed the Anunnaki's bases on Earth all while they fought amongst themselves for the fate of humanity. In the battle, the Annunaki fought to reach their turncoat brethren to prevent them from activating the Harvester. Once they reached them, they ambushed, and incapacitating them long enough for them to take back the key of the Harvester and hide it. The flooding forced the alien beings to enter a state of suspended animation inside their surviving temple as it took sunk beneath the ocean, trapping the Anunnaki seemingly forever with the key of the Harvester and presumably the Stargate itself along with them. That is until archeologists discovered golden Sumerian cylinder seals which were believed to have the symbols that when deciphered would reveal the coordinates of the Stargate and by extention the Star Harvester. These seals would also become objects of interest to the Ahnenerbe to find the Stargate and use its space-time properties.
