Hellboy becomes Anung Un Rama, the Destroyer of Worlds.
“ | You're all fools. The lot of you. Especially you, Hellboy. No matter how much you struggle to defy destiny's plan it will always respond in kind and ten fold. The more you save your world the closer you bring it to ruin. Dread it. Fight it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now it is here. Or should I say...I am. | „ |
~ Nyarlathotep |
Anung Un Rama, Urush Un Rama (translated into Destroyer of Worlds, Creator of Worlds) is an enigmatic eschatology describing the final fate of the world and creation as a whole.
Overview[]
This prophecy involves the cambion known as Hellboy and his destiny to use the Right Hand of Doom to unleash Ogdru Jahad from the Outerverse back into Creation and destroy the current world order. It is known as the Dagor Dagorath by the fae and Ragnarök by witches.
Certain triggers are also taken into account with said triggers being labeled as a "Great Crisis". These Crisis events are unleashed in times of great death and destruction in the mortal world such as the Black Plague and the two World Wars. Biblical authors call them Times of Tribulations which will lead to a saga of apocalyptic events that will conclude to the penultimate End Days, the Final Conflict.
The validity of the prophecy is unknown and it some speculate that it might even be a false prophecy created by Nyarlathotep.
History[]
Background[]
The prophecy was first revealed to the Great Race of Yith who were so terrified by the events that they opted to find a way to survive the inevitable extinction of all things. Some of the Yithians would attempt to prevent this upcoming event by advancing the development of humanity. They did this by sending a distress signal to the Anunnaki who, after witnessing a glimpse of this ominous future, traveled to Earth to ensure the advancement of human society and capabilities. The prophecy was said to have been inscribed on what are known as the "twin pillars of Seth", two pillars built by Seth's descendants only to be lost in the depths of the ocean when Hyperborea sunk beneath the waves.
Millions of years after the dormancy of the Yithians, a research team from the B.P.R.D. uncovered the remains of their city beneath the great sandy desert of Australia. However, one of the scientists, James Henry O'Connell, ventured too deep and away from his team where he came upon the bodies of the Yithians. Before he could call out to his cohorts, the body of the Yithian he made physical contact with transferred and experienced its memories to James, among which was the aforementioned prophecy, to which James then hastily wrote it down as though he was in a trance.

Hellboy became part of a loose alliance of supernatural individuals called the Midnight Suns who came together when they were entangled in their investigations of a mysterious cult's activities. During their battles against this cult's forces, which was later revealed to be the Brujería, Hellboy fought the demon Melchiresa, who sought his apocalyptic powers to unleash the Old Ones and resume the destruction of the world, but Hellboy managed to defeat the demon and resist the temptation. Astaroth, a Duke of Hell, approached the cambion after the confrontation, telling him that he would eventually arrive in Hell and lead the demonic legions to victory against God. Hellboy seemed uninterested in this and dismissed these claims.
Unfortunately, Hellboy would soon discover Trevor Bruttenholm, former director of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, was killed by a Deep One by the orders of Grigori Rasputin, who was resurrected by the Brujería in the hopes of luring and enticing Hellboy to unleash the Ogdru Jahad back into the mortal world. During Azathoth's rampage, Hellboy took it upon himself to intercept the Russian mystic with vengeful fury at the mysterious Cavendish Hall where he was soon joined by fellow B.P.R.D. agents Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien before defeating him and seemingly killing him. During this conflict with Rasputin and the Brujería's attack on the United States, Hellboy was given bits and pieces about his true destiny.
A few years after the Rasputin affair, Hellboy began investigating his own heritage further when the revelation of him being a son of Azazel, a powerful fallen angel and once a chief of the mighty Grigori, was laid on him by Samyaza right before the Grigori Invasion of Heaven. During his investigations, he discovered that his mother was an English woman, who tried to repent on her deathbed, but was dragged to Hell by the Watcher. Slowly becoming disillusioned with the bureau, Hellboy left the organization, after a controversial mission involving an Ogdru Hem in the Austrian Alps.
Hellboy's Exile[]
Hellboy traveled across Africa and the Atlantic Ocean, until he landed on a mysterious island where he encountered an enigmatic mystic who served Dagon, one of the Old Ones. The mystic recognized Hellboy and the Right Hand of Doom, and attempted to take it by force from the demon. Despite Hellboy's efforts, the mystic, who was revealed to be Grigori Rasputin himself, manages to use some of its power and resurrects Dagon, who starts to rampage on the island.
Rasputin also explained the true origin of the Right Hand of Doom: It was a prototype Logos created by God, who used it to lock the Ogdru Jahad into the black starless void that was the Outerverse. It was said to have been among the many items of Heaven that were scattered across the Earth during the War in Heaven, specifically when Mammon attempted to hoard all of Heaven's treasures and valuables for himself until he was intercepted and subdued by the archangel Gabriel. The Right Hand of Doom would be discovered thousands of years later by one of the Watchers, who would turn out to be Azazel, Hellboy's own father.
It is also revealed by the mystic that the return of the Ogdru Jahad and the coming of the End Times is only a matter of "when", further going on to say that the biblical Apocalypse he and his friends endured was only the beginning all while Hellboy managed to eventually overpower Rasputin, killing him. He was even able to defeat Dagon before the Old One could leave the island. The dying Rasputin taunts Hellboy one last time saying that no matter their struggles, their strengths, their will, the end of all things is inevitable. The cambion, now realizing his destiny, slowly falls into depression, and starts to head towards England.

The unnatural death of Varvara Rasputin under the influence of her father created a voidout which is a massive explosion that also served as a signal for the Ogdru Hem to rise and wreak untold havoc across the Earth. Varvara was his illegitimate daughter whom he had prepared as a magical vessel in case he ever died, and the demon Yomyael was actually the only one holding this dark revelation at bay. Rasputin grows into a titanic incorporeal entity, and announces that the true end of the world has finally come, and begins this by incinerating Ashley Strode.
The Armored Response Coalition or ARC makes a valiant attempt to contain and destroy them as much as they can where modern militaries proved ineffective against them, but they are fighting a losing war that goes on for years. Many cities, such as Seattle, New York, Moscow and Tokyo are heavily damaged, millions die or become refugees, and resources become scarce. ARC, who managed to escape from New York and Rasputin's reach, see the situation as hopeless as they lack in both manpower and resources to face the Ogdru Hem as it was expended in their battle against the Thirteen Elder vampires, but the ghost of Sir Edward Grey reveals that the human-race has hope: the Hollow Earth beneath the surface of the Earth itself, in which humanity could survive the end of the world.
Grey's ghost beams the coordinates of the secret cave-entrances to the Hollow Earth into the computers of ARC, who in turn share the information with the various civilian governments and militaries around the world, hoping for as many people as possible to make it to them. ARC also plants to evacuate and reestablish itself underground, but Dante, Vergil, and Nero decide to stay behind to find a way to bring Hellboy back in order to face Rasputin and the forces of the Ogdru Hem. They are accompanied by Liz, Abe, and surprisingly Thessaly, who only joined to restore order as the Ogdru Hem ruined her peace of mind. The remnants of the defunct Dark Knight Initiative set up their quarters in the now established city of Brückenkopf within the Hollow Earth.

Due the chaotic metaphysiology of the Ogdru Hem's presence in our plane of existence, the veil between the material and the immaterial was at its thinnest. This provided Dante, Vergil, Nero, Liz, Abe, and Thessaly an easier time finding a Hellgate with Thessaly using the gathered components to easily open a Hell Gate and travel to Hell. Thessaly informs them that she will remain on the surface keeping the gate open as Hell's atmosphere will assimilate her.
Upon entering the underworld, the five were shocked to find that Satan and most of Hell's leadership is dead with a surviving demon revealing that Hellboy was the cause as he joined Sargatanas in his rebellion against the remaining lords of Hell and together slew the final one, Beelzebub, much to their surprise. Hellboy is reunited with Liz and Abe after years of separation who inform him of the apocalypse occurring above; Rasputin has returned and intends to finish what he started so many years ago. Edward Grey confirms this by showing Hellboy the chaos the Ogdru Hem are causing on the Earth, with Hellboy mourning the fate of the world. Edward Grey comforts them, stating that while the Ogdru Hem would hold dominion over the Earth, it would not be for long. Hellboy decides to end this once and for all and steps out of his self-imposed exile in Hell. Sargatanas offers his assistance and informs the crew that the Ogdru Hem cannot truly be killed for even if their physical bodies are destroyed their spirits still linger in the ether and wait to reconstitute. The only surefire way to destroy them is with Hellboy's Right Hand of Doom and Liz Sherman's flames.
Upon returning to the human world, they are warned by Johann Kraus that their cities are preparing for an attack from an army of monstrous creatures called Outriders who aim to capture Dimitri Belitrov as he wields the final Ab Initio artifact, the Wheel of Shadows, for Nyarlathotep to use for his Void Sword. Sargatanas propose an idea, to gather two armies to fight off two forces of chaos. Vergil rebuffs him on this as Hell's legions are all but dead but Sargatanas begs to differ. The only ones that remain are the imprisoned Giants and the dormant Abyssal Army the latter of which Thessaly declares as their ultimate counterforce. Hellboy was heavily against using the Abyssal Army until Sargatanas reminds him that the "crown does not make the man but his heart." After much thinking, Hellboy reluctantly agrees and the two begin to prepare for a counterstrike while Dante, Vergil, and Nero head back to the Hollow Earth to lend their assistance against the Outriders.
Back in Hell, Sargatanas unleashes Dante's giants (such as the Titans and the Fomorians) with the remaining Nephilim even being among them as they were holding Pandemonium itself erect while Hellboy traverses deeper into Hell to reach the slumbering army. Thessaly helps Johann accumulate massive amounts of residual ectoplasm which was leaking out into the material world from all the ghosts of the dead who perished to become a "necrotic fusion reactor" before he is stabilized with Liz's flames. The giants battle with Shub-Niggurath, but eventually lose the battle though not without grievously wounding her. This provides Johann the opportunity to destroy her himself by acting as a bomb and lunging into Shub-Niggurath's wound before he implodes and utterly incinerates the goddess, sacrificing himself in the process. All the while, Hellboy makes a dramatic entrance, adorning his fiery crown and greatsword, with the Abyssal Army flanking him. He directs the army to attack and destroy the Outriders giving his allies a huge advantage.
The Final Battle[]
Hellboy, Liz, and Abe decide face Rasputin and the footsoldiers of the Ogdru Hem whose numbers would be severely crippled with the destruction of Shub-Niggurath. The three return to San Francisco to face the sorcerer. The battle between the three and Rasputin starts with the sorcerer killing Abe and incapacitating Liz, before turning to Hellboy. Rasputin mocks the cambion, calling him a coward for never embracing his destiny as the harbinger of the Apocalypse, and seeks to claim the Right Hand of Doom, which would finally release his gods, the Ogdru Jahad, back into the world of the living. Hellboy refuses and assumes his Devil Trigger, growing into a titanic size similar to that of Rasputin and the two giants battle across the ruins of San Francisco, destroying the few remaining buildings.
While this happens in San Francisco, the group would be flanked by some of ARC's forces to assist them in repelling an armada of Cthulhi and Deep Ones in the same place where Hellboy first encountered Rasputin. It was not until Cthulhu himself emerged seeking to destroy them only to be held back by a struggling Liz using her flames. During the battle between Hellboy and Rasputin in San Francisco, Rasputin manages to rip the Right Hand of Doom off Hellboy, mockingly asking what he is without it. Hellboy replies by ripping his enemy's heart out with his left hand, killing the sorcerer once and for all.
Elizabeth began to panic over Hellboy's lethal wound he sustained during the battle, so much so that her hysteria disrupted her concentration to control the Secret Fire only to stop when Hellboy calmly and gently assured her that all will be well in the end. He tosses her the severed Right Hand of Doom, and with a wink and grin his last words to Liz were, "Give 'em Hell, kiddo" before seemingly dying himself. Moved by his words, Liz released her full power, channeling it through the Right Hand of Doom, before incinerating the surviving Ogdru Hem and their ilk as the flames engulf the entire world, burning away the corruption of the Ogdru Hem, thus bringing the Weltenbrand event come to fruition.
Instead of returning to Hell, the cambion is now a ghost and is met by Edward Grey, who tells him that the world is almost over, but that there are few more things to do before that, one of which is observe and subtly aid the few living members of the Dark Knight Initiative travel through space and time in a bid to prevent Nyarlathotep from acquiring the Ab Initio Artifacts with the Crawling Chaos hot on their trail.
Ragnarök[]
The ghosts of Hellboy and Edward Grey witness an enormous explosion that kills all present Ogdru Hem, as Yog-Sothoth and the other remaining Ogdru Jahad have arrived on Earth. Instead of raging over the Earth, the ancient deities are massive, lifeless corpses.
Hellboy is baffled, but Grey takes him to Miskatonic University, where they witness a group of mystics known as the Osiris Club, linked to a mysterious machine. Grey explains to Hellboy that these men were responsible for the summoning and killing of the Ogdru Jahad, and that they used Hellboy's detached hand to do this, which was linked to the same machine as the members of the Club. He also states that while the Ogdru Jahad are dead, their essence still exists in the Right Hand of Doom, from which the Osiris Club hopes to absorb and become the gods of the next world. Hellboy is against this and manages to summon his detached hand, manifesting again in a physical form as it reattaches to him. The members of the Osiris Club are terrified and try to stop him, but Hellboy uses to the power of his newly-attached hand to kill both them and destroy Miskatonic University as a whole.
Hellboy is now alone, as it seems that Edward Grey has finally managed to pass on, but is approached again by Hecate, the Greek goddess of witchcraft, who explains that it is time for Hellboy to properly end the world, so that the next one can come. Hellboy is still hesitant, but after hearing that all of humanity on the surface of the Earth have perished, he finally agrees. Hecate, being a liminal deity herself, declares Ragnarok and addresses Hellboy first as Anung Un Rama (The Destroyer of Worlds) and then as Urush Un Rama (the Creator of Worlds), and the world ends, with both the cambion and goddess also perishing.
