Anum

Anum

Anum was an angel and the creator of the Jinn. Chief of the Shalhevim, the Flame Bearers, he was tasked with taking care of God's Eternal Fire before he was banished for breaking his oath.

History[]

Background[]

Anum was one of the innumerable angels created by God and part of the Shalhevim, an order of angels that tended to the Holy Fire of God which burned endlessly in a large circular altar. Milo Thatch of the B.P.R.D. compares it to the sacred duty of the Vestal Virgins who would take care of Vesta's eternal fire in ancient Rome. Anum was chief of seven angels in the Shalhevim who were tasked with taking care of the Secret Fire and would only give it to a select few angels specifically chosen by God to carry out an unnamed assignment which usually involves creating something.

However, Anum held thoughts of wanting to use the Secret Fire but not for malignant means like most would assume. Such thoughts were exposed by Lucifer when the Morningstar approached Anum, telling him of God's magnum opus and that since he and Anum are worthy to stand next to His glory they too should have the privilege of utilizing the power of the fire and have their own creations stand next to His own. Unbeknownst to Amun, Lucifer wanted the angels see God's plan for the likes of humanity and how the creations of the angels would either be no different or destroyed and tossed aside to not overshadow humanity.

Banished from Heaven[]

Convinced, Anum took the Secret Fire to make new creations with his own two hands. Through his own usage of Vril, his new creations emerged as the first Jinn. Lucifer also had a guiding hand in the process with the Jinn meant to mirror his beauty, splendor, and will. When Anum showed God, the Almighty immediately admonished the angel and forbade him from ever using the Secret Fire again. For breaking his oath, Anum was demoted and wound up in the Garden of Eden where he assumed a shape.

After Adam and Eve's expulsion from Eden, Anum observed them for quite the considerable amount of time and became fascinated with them. He only did so when he saw that these humans held the dormant fire of God deep within the cores of their soul. He was one of the angels that aided humanity alongside Raziel and Rahab, even giving secrets related to the Holy Fire to the Hyperborean king. Anum resided in the temple where the pyre for the Holy Fire was kept. Unfortunately, Anum met his demise when Atlach-Nacha broke into the Hyperborean gardens and devoured him along with the gardens themselves, courtesy of Lucifer who sought the Secret Fire.
