Annikki is a spirit or goddess from Finnish mythology, daughter of Tapio and Mielikki. Sometimes identified as the goddess of nightmares.
Overview[]
She was the sister of the hero Kullervo , but they were separated from a very young age. As adults, they met again and engaged in sexual intercourse, but discovered their relationship late and decided to commit suicide out of shame. Even though she seemingly perished, Annikki is confirmed to still haunt the deepest layers of unconcious mind through the dream worlds as a goddess of nightmares. According to Dream, Annikki does this as a way to cope through anger, disgust, and shame from what has transpired with Kullervo.
